There's also another neat beach called Hawk's Nest. It is one that mainly locals know about. It is not a tourist place but rather a park. No food no bar no other amenities except restrooms but a very secluded and un crowded beach with a live reef for pretty good snorkeling.

You can also take the Charlotte Amalie ferry from downtown. The ride is longer, maybe 30 mins, but your don't have to travel for approx. 30 mins all of the way thru to Red Hook in a crazy taxi just to catch the short ferry.

Rhen - grab a taxi at the pier and tell the taxi driver to take you to the Charlotte Amalie ferry to St. John. I believe it runs every hour, so you may have a bit of a wait. If you do, go across the street and to your left maybe a block, then you'll see a narrow alley like area to your right, down there is a Chocolate store. Yummo!!
