We usually go off on our own when in ports. I have never been to St Kitts.

Any suggestions on what to do on your own here or should we take one of the ships tours?

just get another couple and catch a cab to the other end of the island - I can't remember the name but jsut tell the cab you want to go where you can see the monkeys. Not only is it a nice beach and decent snorkle but the drive over is absolutele wonderful.

That would be Turtle Beach - cool bar/restaurant (just don't take any pictures of the rasta guys!), great view of Saba, free chairs and umbrellas. A fun, fun place!

If you like history, catch a cab with some couples and request a tour to Brimstone Hill. Nice fortress. Also stopped at Caribelle Batik factory. In all it was about 2.5 hours, and you got to see a lot of the island. Much cheaper than booked tours.

I hear a new train tour is available and wonderful, but very pricy.

We were there last week and took a narrow guage train around the island. The tour is offered by celebrity but fills up fast. We had a great time on the train and did get to see a lot of the island.

Do your own thing for sure. Never have taken a ship tour. Far too expensive. Go early to the beach and see the monkeys - take some fruit from breakfast. Its a wonderful experience.

Friars Beach in Frigate Bay. Spectacular unspoiled scenery. Artificial reef with good snorkling and some topless sunbathing. No hotels in sight….just beach, sea, and green mountains. We were there in Dec 01.
