Hi Everyone:
I am a newbie this will be our second cruise. I was wondering if anyone could recomend the best beach to take kids ( 14 & 17) to in St Maarten? Also do these beaches have places that rent wave runners or water skies? Finally is there a certain age for the riders to go on thier own? Thanks for any help you can offer.

We went to Orient Beach with our 7-yr old. The beach is so beautiful, and my son had so much fun, he never noticed the topless women. I just wish I hadn't noticed the two old naked guys walking up and down. But the color of the water alone was worth it.

How far is this beach from the port? Can you get there by taxi? Thanx in advance.

There are tons of cabs waiting at the pier to take you anywhere you want. The island is pretty small. After Orient Beach, we took another cab to Marigot, the french Capital, and then back to the pier.

We drove out to Orient Beach to check it out- once you finally make it through miles of totally destroyed, potholed dirt roads to get there, it's like any crowded tourist beach (except you have to look at lots of naked people who you wish had their suits on- all you guys with visions of nude Baywatch can forget about it). I personally think two hormonal teenagers don't need to see that, especially when it's easily avoided by going somewhere else. You might catch a stray topless lady here and there on any beach, but not grown men in all their glory. We turned around and went back to the main drag on the Dutch side. All you need to do is hop on the cheap foot ferry from the cruise ship dock that takes you over there- rent some beach chairs for the day and you're set. There are tons of shops, restaurants, casino, etc. and you can eat and drink on the beach. Lots of watersports and stuff to do, plus you can go back and forth on the ferry if you want to go grab lunch free on the ship and come back. If we went back, we'd go straight there and hang out. I think the ferry is $5 R/T PP, and really is the way to go since with a rental car you can't park anywhere near there easily.

Orient Beach is DROP DEAD BEAUTIFUL and it took our breath away (and we've been to many Caribbean beaches).

Don't worry about naked people. Nobody will be traumatized by seeing the human body.

Have fun!

I am booked on the Carnival Glory on April 29, 2006 (yes, about one year from now). I am interested in going to Orient Beach. I figured getting there would be no problem, just take a cab. But what I am wondering about is, will there be taxis at the beach in the afternoon waiting to take people back to the ship, or should I make reservations?

I only saw one cute naked girl, the others no one want to look at. If I had been naked that would have been one more person naked that no one wanted to look at.

There are plenty of taxis waiting to take you back to the ship. It's a beautiful beach -- in spite of the nekkid bodies :) No big deal.

Orient Beach is my all time favorite beach, it's so beautiful! After you are there for awhile you don't even notice the naked people.
