Has anyone taken an excursion to Pinel Island on St. Maarten? Would appreciate any feedback on that. Thanks.

we took the snorkel excursion to Pinel from our Celebrity cruise in June 02. We were a bit disappointed. I'd never snorkeled before so was looking forwarding to seeing the great marine life. While there were some fish (they were fed to come into the area) and there was some coral/reef life, much of that coral/reef life was abused. People would stand on the corals and reefs, etc. There was only a small general area that we swam around.

We're looking for something else to do when we port in St. Maarten in November. Going to try the Captain Nautica excursion for the snorkeling this time (St. Thomas/St. John).

You didn't mention exactly what kind of excursion it was to Pinel - I can only assume you meant the snorkeling?

Thank you for your answer. It is a snorkeling excursion, but quite frankly we dont care about that. We really were more attracted to the peaceful quiet beach, in contrast to the very busy Orient beach. Or are we missing something not going there instead?

If it is the same excursion we did, it was a very very small area. Personally, we would not go there again. The beach area was not good for just regular swimming, it was a rocky bottom and it was even difficult getting out to a point where you could swim to the snorkel area.

You should get some other opinions though. As for Orient - we heard it was a very nice beach, unfortunately we did not see it since we chose the snorkel excursion.

Hope this is of some help to you. I'm sure that someone else on this site has been on this excursion and give you their point of view also.
