We were in St Maarten a couple yrs ago and on an Island tour they took us to an open market place. It was on the oposite side of the island as the pier. Does anyone have any idea how far that is from the pier or how long it takes to get there. We are in SM from 7a to 6 p and we have an 11am tour. We were want to find this market place. Does anyone know if we would have time to do this?

There was a big very colorful market in Marigot, the french capital. It was an about 20 minute cab ride, mabe even longer because of heavy traffic near the pier. With an 11 am tour I am not sure I would do it, unless you off the boat and ready to take a cab there at 7am. That would be awful early to get up in my opinion.

There is an open air market in Marigot. It would depend on how long your 11:00 tour is. I'd say you would need to allow at least 30 min. for the cab ride back to the pier and sometimes the traffic can get messy and slow things down a lot.

The market is usually open on Wednesday and Saturdays and at it's peak until about noon (it's on the French side which means everything except restaurants shut down from 12 - 3). Cabs are easy to get and are ready, willing and able from the port. You do have to alot extra time for traffic. The joke of the island is that it is quicker to take the 8 hour boat tour than to drive across the island (which is where Marigot is relative to the pier)
