We will be in St. Martin on Sunday on our cruise on the Dawn Princess in March 05. Does anyone know if the shops will be open on Sunday ? Any info will help.

The shops are always open when ships are in port! Cabs will be a plenty to take you to Front Street. If you're looking for jewlry check out Oro Diamante, ask for Sammy and tell him Harry & Linda from Mass. sent you (we own a timeshare in St. Maarten and go every year). If you're a Jimmy Buffet fan, check out Last Mango in Paradise and if you're into Star Wars, don't miss a shop called The Yoda Guy (he is one of the artists that created Yoda).
Give my love to the island, it's one of my favorites

Here is info from a travel web site regarding shops on St. Marten:

What are the Business Hours on the island?

Stores in Philipsburg are open all day Monday through Saturday, and some are open on Sunday if there is a cruise ship in port. In Marigot, the shops tend to close between noon and I p.m. and reopen at 3:00 p.m. until the late afternoon or early evening. Most businesses are closed on Sunday, and so are many restaurants. Grocery stores are open Monday - Saturday 8:00a.m. - 8:00p.m., Sunday 9:00a.m. - 1:00p.m. To make the most of your day, YOU should plan your activities accordingly.

Are there any links to any of the privet tour in St Martin? I have not been able to find these like you do for other islands.

I have been searching all boards for several months for a tour of St. Maarten and what I've found is everyone says get a taxi driver when you get there and they will take you for a tour for $20-30 per person. That is what we have decided to do in April. There is one tour person named Joyce Prince but she only does tours of four people or less. If that would be your case then I'd try to get some info on her. She comes highly recommended.

If you can find "Happy Harold" he does a great tour for island guests, I'm not sure if he does tours for the cruise guests. It does include a stop at Orient Beach (clothing optional but most people at Orient are clothed, it's just a great beach) and Dawn Beach (good snorkeling) and includes lunch at a Lolo (outside barbeque - very St. Martin) in Grand Case.

We walked to the main shopping area when we were there. It is about a mile. There is a beach right there by the shopping so you can easily combine the two activities as well. Taxis are also available- I believe $3 pp ea way.

Hello from Wisconsin,
We will be in St. Maarten on Wednesday Dec. 7th, 2005 aboard the Sea Princess. We have already booked the "Lord Sheffield" from 11-3:15. My question is there a market on Wed that we can go to in the morning. I've read that they have them on Wed and Sat. Is this true? Also is there a store that sells delft or even good imitation as my DH is dutch.

Thanks in advance

Andre' and Mary

When Michael and I were in St Martin, we had time to shop down town on the main street before and after our trip on the Lord Sheffield. We saw a number of shops on the main street that had delft (type) items.
