St Thomas Questions

I am looking forward to my first visit to St. Thomas in early June. I am having a hard time finding a map of the island and wonder if you know where I can get my hands one.
Also, what is the best way to get from the dock to Magens Bay. Is there a bus? Or is a cab the answer? If a cab, how much should I expect to pay?
Has anyone taken the ferry to St. John? I hear St. John is nicer, friendlier..
Where does the ferry leave from in relationship to the docks?
Finally, between Magen Bay and Trunk Bay...which would you choose and why?

Thanks for all your help!

I have only been to Magen's Bay, and it was gorgeous! I am not sure exactly how much it was for a cab, but I think it was around $5-6/person. We had a great cab driver who also took us to a scenic overlook on the way. St. Thomas is a great place! If you go to yahoo or google and type "st thomas usvi" a ton of sites will come up, and many will have maps of the island included.

Nessie,
When precisely will you be on St. Thomas?. I will be there on June 12 sailing on the Paradise.

My husband and I were in St. Thomas on the Carnival Destiny last June, first time there and we'd already planned ahead to spend out day at St. John...We'd convinced ourselves that it wasn't to be missed (we'd heard so many good things, over St. Thomas)...and boy were we right! We're not big shoppers and don't care for the busy port cities much, we wanted to see natural beauty & stunning beaches and we found that and so much more on St. John. It was so easy to get over there & back, with plenty of time to spare (and our ship sailed at 5!) Rather than taking the ferry directly from Charlotte Amalie, we took a cab to Red Hook so we were able to see some of the St. Thomas countryside & views. The ferry from Red Hook is just a few dollars, 20 min. You arrive in Cruz Bay, where you can easily find a friendly open-air bus to take you to whatever beach you want...of course Trunk Bay is the most popular, and that's where we headed. Great snorkling, incredible water! We took the ferry from Cruz Bay back to Charlotte Amalie (40 min.), great views of the coastline as you return and magnificent views coming into the harbour. We saw such a small part of St. John and it's just spectacular. We told others on our return that St. John was truly the most beautiful island we saw. Can't wait to go back.

Maegan's Bay is beautiful if you also, wish to spend sometime shopping or taking the Tram up Paradise Hill, just have a tqxi drop you off on the way back. Taxi is the best way to get there and should cost about $10 or less pp each way. There is an entry fee to get into Maegan's, again maybe $3. If you decide to venture on your own to St. John, take an early taxi to Red Hook $8pp, Ferry about $3 and catch a taxi to Trunk Bay ($?) on the return you could take the ferry back to Charlotte Amalie downtown ($7) and check out the shops, park, etc. Taxi back to ship is about $2pp.
Have a wonderful cruise. bon Voyage
