Anyone have any opinions on how this works with Carnival? Other lines have gone other routes to try and satisfy passengers request but IMO the way Carnival addresses the dining might offer the most opporetunities with going completly away form traditional dining.

I believe one reason they staggered the dining time, at least on the Victory, was because the Maitre D was the same for both dining rooms. He always made anouncements in the dining room and of course on Carnival the waiters do their dancing and singing, so this allowed him time to participate in both dining rooms.

On our back to back on Victory we did have both the early seating times and both dining rooms. For us it worked out well I could see where the earliest dining time may cause problems for people that may be on a tour. I know one couple at our table only made it to dinner twice because they were always busy doing something else when it came to dinner time.

The two late seating times probably worked out well for most.

The Boss and I enjoy staggering at cocktail hour. Hopefully we will enjoy staggering at dinner time just as well.

My wife and I haven't had any problem with the staggered dining times. We prefer to eat early (5:00 - 7:00 ish) and have always been accommodated on Carnival. I realize a lot of people like to eat later so this way the cruise line has a chance of satisfying most people. They have two performances of almost all the entertainment, which is important to us, so you can enjoy the shows regardless of which seating you have for dinner. I have yet to experience "freestyle dining" so I won't comment on that, but I do enjoy the same table, waiters, time eyc. My opinion could change though if there is someone seatedwith us we would rather not dine with. The dining experience is a big part of the cruising adventure for us and Carnival has always made it pleasurable.
