Stateroom service on Conquest question

Just got off the Conquest this past Sunday. Loved a lot of things, was disappointed about just a few things.

One of them was that we had a stateroom for three. Thus, we had the king sized bed and then a twin for my son.

When we cruised Disney, we had the same set-up. During the day, the twin bed was not made up and was available as a couch with bolsters so we could sit there comfortably. After dinner when we would return to our cabin, the couch was then made into the bed with sheets turned back.

On the Conquest, this never happened. The bed was always a bed. The bolsters remained on the floor in the corner. I was disappointed about that. Is this just the way that Carnival does it or did we have a lazy steward!!??

Sounds like the steward was not taking care of you the way he/she should have. I would have probably let the steward know that I wanted the bed made back in to a couch during the day.

I always tell my clients that if something on their cruise isn't right they need to bring it up while they are on the ship so that it can be corrected then and there.

was your child young? Maybe the steward though to keep it made as a bed incase of naps.
If you wanted it as a sofa during the day you should have let him know.

Oh no, my son is 11 years old. I think we just had a bad steward. We have only sailed Disney as a family and I thought that maybe this was one of those extra Disney touches. I thought that perhaps generally if there are 3 in a stateroom, they don't usually bother making the bed back and forth. Since service was phenomenal on Disney, I figured they went the extra mile.

Not till I returned and asked this question here on the board, did I realize that it is standard procedure, even on Carnival. I didn't think to ask the steward - like I said - just thought this is how they do it on Carnival.

Since returning, I also learned that on Carnival a big cookie is left at bedtime every night for kids. My son only received the cookie one night.

So I guess we had a bad attendant :-(

what about chocalate or towel animals -- did you get those?

I had a cabin steward that had 20 cabins to do twice a day and I got everything i expected plus some

I think it is a matter of communication and had you told the steward that you rather have the sofa, during the day, that it would have been done.

It's unfortunate that you feel you were not properly attended as that really does flavor one's desire to cruise again. We have never had a problem, but we always make sure that we introduce ourselves to our steward and if there are any special requests we've made them known.

I have cruised Carnival, and have never heard about the cookies! I don't think you had a bad steward. I just think he was not aware of your expectations.

My family has cruised both Disney and Carnival before (in that order) and I feel you can't compare any cruise to the Disney Magic. Disney itself caters to your EVERY need no matter what and I don't think the other cruise lines get that concept. We've also cruised Norweigen (sp?) and they were really great but Disney has been the top dog for us. We went on the Elation about 1 1/2 yrs ago and was disappointed in it but that was about 9 months after our Disney cruise. We are giving Carnival another try on the Conquest in Aug '07. I hope it is better than the Elation. Anyway, that is my 2 cents worth on the subject...

We have cruised Carnival and the few times that we had more than 2 in our cabin the cabin steward always made the couch up at night into a bed but turned it back into a couch in the morning. We've never had to ask him to do this, it was just always done. We have never had cookies put into our room at night, even when the extra guest in our room was a child. Next time you can just mention it and hopefully you won't encounter that problem again.

Hey Babushka -

Thanks! You are actually the first one who answered my question :)

I was just wondering if this is normally done without having to request. I realize that the attendants will usually do what they're asked, but really my question was -- is it standard procedure or not?

So, now I have the answer :)

Thank you again,
Kris
