Stingray City

I was just wondering if anyone knows what effect (if any) all the news about the stingrays have had on Stingray City and the other various stingray excursions. I personally loved Stingray City and would hate for this negative press to effect their business. I hate what happened to those involved in the accidents, but I also know what tame creatures stingrays are. I feel the stingrays had to have been provoked or spooked to have hurt anyone. I have every intention of visiting Stingray City each time I am in Grand Cayman.

Hello and =welcome to Cruise @ddicts.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. The Steve Irwin incident and the Ray that supposedly "jumped" in to a fishing boat were freak accidents. I was swimming with the Rays at Shark Ray Alley in Belize just the week before the Steve Irwin tragedy. I've also been to Stingray City twice. I would not hesitate to do it again any time. I have heard of some people changing their plans about swimming with the stingrays, that's a shame. They will be missing out on a wonderful experience but to each his own.

Having said that I do believe I will be a little more cautious in the future about not "cornering" or spooking one. We must always remember that when diving we are visiting these and other sea creatures in THEIR homes If we don't behave like un-wanted guests we'll enjoy the privelage of sharing the ocean with them peacefully.
