Strange cabin configuration on Grand Princess.....

It seems there are some balcony cabins with very unusual configurations on the Grand Princess. Several weeks ago I read about it on another board and the passenger has since returned and posted a photo. I think eveyone who might book one of these cabins should have this information so I hope that the CC poster does not mind if I share it here.

The cabins that she points out are B429/431/433 B428/430/432 . These cabins do not have beds that are convertible to queen size, they do not have night tables but rather cubbies at the head of the twin beds.

Here is a photo that was posted of one of these cabins!

Should you wish to read the thread about these cabins you can find it here.

Now that is weird. I wonder if they were originally meant to be crew or staff cabins. Odd to say the least. Thnx for sharing.

It's because those are the cabins that accommodate four passengers. With four passengers, the beds can't be oriented across the doorways, and therefore can't be pushed together.

The "quad" cabins I suppose.

Sounds like the ship itself is in pretty bad shape too...glad I'll be in port every day.

That was my initial thought, also. So, I took out my brochure that introduced Grand Princess, and these cabins are clearly marked as quad cabins in which the lower beds cannot be pushed together. (OK, maybe not so clearly as I needed a magnifying glass to make out the symbol next to the cabin number.) Later brochures showed the same for Golden Princess. Yet if you go onto the Web site, the only special notation is that it's a quad. Very misleading, indeed.

Thank you for the share, Beryl.

Just to add, everyone that is saying these are quad person staterooms are correct. The second two beds drop down from the ceiling directly above the two beds shown in the photograph. If the photo was taken at a better angle (looking up) you would see them. The primary issue for no queen in this configuration is because it is purely a safety issue. The final configuration looks like bunk beds and if you pushed the bottom two together one of the pax in either of the top bunks could roll off the bed and fall on the pax(s) below. I guess they rather have you bounce off the floor.....

Apparently they are indeed quad rooms but it also seems that these beds cannot be put into a queen configuration even if there are only 2 people in the cabin....the online deck plans show that the can be made into a queen....what a shock to arrive and find out that this is not the case. I for one would be a very unhappy camper ... or should I say cruiser... if I unwittingly booked one of these cabins!!

Connie...since you are going to be sailing on this ship I would love it if you could investigate if you had the opportunity!

edited to add.....Connie, don't worry about it if you don't get to it...I do understand that vacation time is very precious !

If you unwittingly booked one of these cabins, your cruise personalizer (as well as your agent) should inform you that the beds do not convert.

As for the Grand not being in good shape, she was fine in Sept 2007 when I was on her for 17 days.

Sept 2007 was a loooooooooooooooooooong time ago Cruiseaholic. Hundreds of thousands of pax ago. Too many postings stated it was in poor shape in late 2008 and early 2009.

Like I said, I don't really care. I got it at excellent pricing and expect little of the ship and expect a lot of adventure in the ports. The few cabins left have really jumped up in price.
