Hi again,
Has anyone on here taken the submarine excursion? it's a sub that takes you down and you can see the corals, etc.. any input on that? thanks in advance.

I did a sub tour in Jamaica a couple of years ago. during a land based vacation. It was OK.

I enjoy snorkeling more. I doubt I'd do another one. If there's somebody in your group who has mobility issues or otherwise wouldn't get to see undersea life, it's better than nothing.

Not sure which one you are talking about or where.... but we did the Atlantis Sub in Grand Cayman. Im glad we did it once, but I dont think I would do it again. It was kinda pricey for 4 people, and we really didnt see much more than we saw when we took a glass bottom boat tour. But it was kinda neat for my kids to actually get to go underwater in a submarine. I also booked with them directly instead of doing the ships tour, less $$. You can find them online.

possibly one of them in either barbados, st. kitts, st. lucia, dominica or st. thomas. They have them there. Thanks for the tips, I should go online to see if it's cheaper than the ship's $89.00.

Not sure which destination you need but we also have the submarine ride available here in Cozumel. It runs about $79 pp for adults, a bit less for kids. You can read more and book for cozumel online on cozumelinsider under activities. The neat thing about the submarine to me is that it IS very different than snorkeling ~ while you dont' get to see the little fishes up close and personal you do get a real perspective on what the underwater world really looks like at depth! It's beautiful and the coral formations we have here in Cozumel are just spectacular when viewed from the sub!! Hope this helps with your decision making!! have fun!!

Forget the sub tour.

In St. Kitts go to Brimstone Hill. In St. Lucia do the land & sea to the Pitons -- expensive but worth EVERY penny! In St. Thomas take the cable car ride (Kind of expensive for what it is $12 pp) but the view is awesome; then take a cab into town for shopping. In Dominica & Barbados there are so many more interactive things to do.

Did the Atlantis sub tour in Barbados on April 5th. Was 99 if you booked thru Princess, was 82.50 online which I booked.

I was a 'neat' thing to go down 142 feet, however, I wouldn't pay for it again. You see a few fish, some coral and at least on my tour, a sunken ship.

Check the photo gallery in a few days... by Wednesday night I should have my review of the Sun Princess March 30th trip and will post extensive pictures of all 6 stops including for you a few pictures of the sub and what it looks like out the window of the sub at 110 feet down.

Like I said, it was a cool thing, but I believe my time and cash would have been better spent doing something else.

the photo gallery name will be Lex's Sun Princess Trip

cheers,

Lex

We just did the Atlantis Sub in Grand Cayman.

It was ok, but wouldn't do it again, if given the opportunity. My kids, 9 and 10, weren't even very thrilled with it.

FYI....

RCI offers the Atlantis sub for $85 in Grand Cayman and I looked at the Atlantis Sub website... their price is $84. So there really isnt a price difference any more. When I did this 2 years ago, I think there was more like a $12 per person difference (times 4 people, it was a decent savings). So I suppose the only benefit to booking directly is to save time. You may get a better selection of tour times directly, as well as not waiting around for other passengers with a ships tour. I hate to waste my time waiting, espceially in port.

I went on the Atlantis tour in Barbados. It was fine but, as others have said, kind of pricey. You ride a ferry out to the sub and that is kind of neat, but you only spend about an hour on the sub. You can spend an entire day on a catamaran that includes, drinks, lunch and 2 snorkling stops for less $$$.

I DID enjoy the Atlantis, but after a short time, to me everything started to look the same.
