I will be on the Princess Sun's 10 day Southern itinerary. Any suggestions for the above ports. We like to snorkel and hike. In St. Thomas we are undecided whether we will snorkel St. John or good old Sapphire Beach (been there 3x)

There is terrific snorkeling in both Dominica and Curacao. In Dominica, it's a unique experience, as you snorkel above volcanic vents which release bubbles into the water. It's like snorkeling in champagne. However, there are some fabulous hikes in Dominica as well, so you'll have to decide here. It's a nature lover's paradise.

In Curacao, would definitely recommend snorkeling. There are some boat excursions, but also there's a beach club right next to the Seaquarium which has excellent snorkeling, then a really nice beach day.

Barbados has some fun wreck snorkels, or kayaking and sea turtle snorkeling.

You're on a fabulous itinerary for what you like to do. Enjoy!

Hey Dale, you're an expert on Saphire Beach in St. Thomas ... would you tell us about it? ...we were thinking it was a better bet than Megan's Bay or Coki Beach, better water etc. We heard there is a pool area where you can get drinks? And can you rent chairs and umbrellas? And stuff yer face too? Do you get there by cab?
Thx,
-Bob

Yes, you will need a taxi. It's about $6 per person each way. Yes, there is a small resort and restraunt. Chair rental was $5. Snorkel rentals are available but we had our own. They do have a SunFish sailboat for rent but expect to be quizzed on your sailing ability and it you don't pass he won't rent to you.
Snorkeling is very good but the water is very shallow. You will need to learn to float very prone in the water; otherwise you will damage the coral and yourself at the same time.
I'm not sure that I can compare Megan's and Coki beach. Sapphire is a lot smaller, I believe, but there are fewer people. The cruise ships do not have excursions going to Sapphire Beach; a large group would overwhelm it and the resort would not be happy.
