Suite Embarkation

I know sail7seas will know the answer to this since we are sailing in "her" cabin! When we arrive at the port, where do we go for suite check in? Is there a special line or room for suite passengers? Also, we are planning on being at the port around noon, do you think that will be easier or harder, as far as crowds. We love to have time on board to explore before we sail. Thanks for the info. We will take good care of your room the week of Jan. 5. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This is our first HAL cruise along with 3 other couples, all in suites!!! None of us have ever sailed HAL and 2 of the couples have never sailed before.

There will be a special check-in line for Suites and it moves quite quickly. HAL doesn't usually begin boarding until 1:00 or 1:30 so you will have some time to kill in the waiting area. You will be given a #1 boarding card and will be called immediately after the Penthouse and disabled people.

PS - Have a great trip - you'll love the suite.

Hi Debbie: When you get to the pier, you will see a check-in line marked Suite Passengers. It is USUALLY, but not always, on the far left. Go to that line and when the person checking you in gives you your boarding card, be sure it says "Priority Embarkation" or has the numer "1" on it. If you receive anything else, ask for it. Once in a while, they simply forget to give the priority card and will quickly rectify the error.

It will depend which terminal the ship is docked at as to where you will wait. If it is HAL's usual terminal, go upstairs (there is an elevator if you need/want it)...find a seat and Suites will begin boarding immediately after people in wheelchairs and those who need special assistance. This is usually between 1:15 and 1:30.

There is an alternate terminal Immigration has sometimes made HAL use for Maasdam and this one is set up differently; In that terminal, most of the seating is downstairs, but there is a separate waiting area upstairs (where the door for boarding is located) and Suite Pax are directed to it. There is a metal gate they have to raise to allow access. I, personally, did not like this terminal and much prefer the regular one they usually use. Not HAL's choice.....Immigration ordered it.

We always do a pre-cruise stay in FLL before our cruises and have to check out of the hotel by noon, so that is when we head to the port. The stevedores are all set up to take your checked luggage and they have started doing the security scans and check-ins by that time.

Any other questions I can help with, don't hesitate.

HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME!!! I know there have been crew change as many recently left for their vacations....but whoever rotated in I am sure are terrific.

Thanks so much for your help. We are so excited and don't want to get there any earlier than we have to. I hate to wait in lines but when you're cruising...who cares??!! We were getting nervous hearing about all the cases of virus but again, we will just be prepared and pray for the best. Last cruise, I was still bald...this cruise I have a full head of hair again. NO more wigs at dinner!

Thanks for the helpful info, sail. I was wondering the same thing. Great question, Debbie. Hope to hear lots from you when you return. We'll be on the opposite side of Sail's cabin in July in a suite too. :thumb

Lady Jag, our friends are going to be in that cabin! We have cabins 030, 028, 026, and 024! We'll take good care of them for you! I'll let you know how it goes. It is our first HAL cruise also...only 17 days to go. I think you'll be impressed when your docs arrive, sure is different from RCCL.

Deb - We'll be in 7069, which is opposite of Sail's I think. I can't wait! How are the docs different? I'm so used to RCI's and Princess's docs! How far in advance did you get them? Are you doing cruise line air?

Debbie...I believe you are talking about Maasdam??? Lady Jag is discussing Zuiderdam. The cabin numbering is different.

Sorry, sometimes I still suffer from chemo-brain! We were supposed to be on the Zuiderdam for the inaugural this week, guess I am still dreaming about it. We had to cancel when my husband's "wonderful" boss decided to fire him with no warning and no reason!! Anyway, I am talking about the Maasdam.

Lady Jag, I want you to be surprised at the difference but we got our docs about 3 weeks before the cruise, which is in a little more than 2 weeks for us.

So sorry to hear that, Debbie. I guess it wouldn't be too fun cruising and wondering what he'd do for a job when he came back. I can understand having to cancel.

I'm hoping we get our docs sooner since we won't be doing cruise line air. Maybe a month or so in advance? I'll be anxious to see how they package their docs. I like RCI's neat, tidy little booklet and despise Princess' mess of papers. How does HAL do it?

(Sail is now gone, so she won't be replying.)

We didn't have to do the flying thing either since we live in Sarasota. We just hop in the car and head to Ft. Lauderdale the morning we are cruising.

HAL does an impressive leather folder with all pertinent info enclosed. Really much nicer than RCCL's paper one. They did send us new forms for immigration after they sent the docs though. Said there were new rules, but we saw less info on the new forms than on the old ones. Can't figure it out but we filled out both forms just in case!

Wow - their doc folder sounds really nice! Can't wait to get my hands on it!

Wish we didn't have to fly, but we do. We just buy our own air. It's less than half what the cruise line charges. The only cruises we can drive to are those on the West Coast and we can't stand those ones! At least we won't have to fly all the way to Puerto Rico this time. FLL is relatively easy to get to and won't take too long. (about 6.5 hrs.)
