Summer Riviera Cruise - limited options

We have gone on several cruises to the Caribbean but this summer we are going to try the Mexican Riviera. Does anyone know why Carnival is pretty much the only major cruise line that offers the Riviera cruise in June, July or August? Is this not a great place to go in the summer months? I'd appreciate any info.

I suspect the other cruise lines feel that Alaska - which can only be visited during those months give or take a week or two - is more profitable for them. I can't think of any other reason.

I really enjoy the Mexican Riviera. It's such a refreshing change..although the water can be a bit rough. If you do the PV, Mazatlan, Cabo route....Cabo is more expensive than the other two for souveniers. (I like this route better than the Acapulco, Ixtapa, Manzanilla route.) I should mention however, that we have not visited in the summer. It's been in the spring, fall and winter. We try to avoid the times when school is out since our kids are grown now.
