Summit Waterfall Pool

Hello fellow Cruise Addicts,

I have a question about the Waterfall pool on Summit. I've been told it has a retractable roof and just want to verify that.

I'm taking my two children on an Alaska cruise and want to be sure they can swim ( I know the thalassotherapy pool is off limits) in an enclosed area if the weather is poor.

I've contacted Celebrity and been told that the Waterfall pool can be enclosed and also ( on a different phone call) that it cannot be. ????

Having read about Celebrity's customer service information accuracy on various threads, I believe that another cruise family member may know for sure (and I trust their information better)! Thanks in advance!

There's no retractable roof at all at the Waterfall pool. HAL has the retractable type pools on their ships. Celebrity only has them on the aft pool of the Mercury and Galaxy. I believe that the aqua spa's pool does not retract on the Millennium ships.

I sailed on the Infinity to Alaska which is the nearly identical twin of the Summit. Both ships Aquaspa's have a an indoor thalassotherapy pool covered by a non-retractable glass dome. On my sailing children were allowed in the pool. My sister who was 8 at the time was allowed to use it.

The probable reason for this is that when Celebrity made the Millennium class ships (Millennium, Infinity, Summit, and Constellation) they did not make a pool with a retractable dome like the Galaxy and Mercury. The Galaxy and Mercury have an indoor retractable dome, an outdoor, and thalassotherapy pools. The thalassotherapy pools on the those two ships were off limits to kids and I believe there is a charge associated with these pools. Instead the thalassotherapy pool on the Millennium class ships also became the indoor pool because of the lacking third pool with retractable glass.

The waterfall pools are heated but do not have a covering.

I hope you go on the cruise its a beautiful ship and destination!

The thalassotherapy pools on the Millie class ships are ALSO supposed to be off limits to kids-- there are clear signs posted-- but it seems that the staff does not enforce this- much to the dismay of adults that have just payed for spa treatments, etc and wish to finish up relaxing in the T-pool, only to find many noisy kids splashing about. I like kids, too-- I just wish their parents would read signs and pay attention to rules- otherwise kids grow up not knowing how to behave.

Steve,

They enforced the rules on the Constellation's T-pool on the Dec. 7-14 cruise after the first day.

I think, in actuality, the new T-pool area is Celebrity's version of the Solarium on RCI ships. It's even in the same location and feels similar to the same space in the Explorer of the Seas that I sailed last year. except it is Celebrity style decor. I think there were many compromises made to the Millie class ships because they are from an RCI, not Celebrity, hull. I'm not enamoured to the new class of ships for this reason, though they are quite expensively furnished.
