Northeast
Today will be a chilly day for mid-September across the Northeast, with a frosty start to the day across many areas of the interior Northeast.
Temperatures will warm quickly, but still be below average for this time of year.
As the week progresses, afternoon highs will begin to warm.
The region should stay dry throughout the work week.
Afternoon highs will range from the 50s over Northern New England to the 70s on the Delmarva Peninsula.
Midwest
A few showers are possible this morning in Illinois and Indiana.
Otherwise, much of the Midwest will experience a dry Sunday, with a warm and dry day in the Plains and cool and dry day in the Upper Ohio Valley and the Great Lakes.
The warmth will move eastward into the Mississippi and Ohio Valleys and Great Lakes beginning tomorrow, with a couple of rounds of cooler temperatures over the Northern Plains Tuesday and Thursday.
A couple of cold fronts will bring an increased chance of rain and thunderstorms Tuesday and Thursday.
Highs today will range from the 60s near the Great Lakes to the l00s in southwest Kansas.
Highs tomorrow will range from the 60s in the Arrowhead of Minnesota to the 90s in Kansas.
West
Isolated storms are possible over the Four Corners today, with some locally heavy rains possible that could produce flash flooding in valleys and washes.
In the Northwest, a storm system will move ashore and bring showers and possibly a thunderstorm or two to the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies.
This system will bring rain to the Northern Rockies and adjacent Plains tomorrow and Tuesday.
Another round of showers moves into the Northwest through the Northern High Plains Wednesday.
Towards mid week, an upper level low moves inland along the West Coast and brings some showers to the Oregon Cascades and Sierra Nevada Mountains and cooler temperatures across the West Coast states and Nevada.
Highs today will range from the 50s in northwestern Washington to the 100s in the Colorado River Valley.
Highs tomorrow will range from the 50s over the higher elevations of the Rockiest to the 100s in the Sonoran Desert in southwestern Arizona.
South
An isolated storm or two is possible over the Florida Peninsula and in Deep South Texas today and tomorrow.
Rainfall amounts should generally be light, but an isolated storm could produce locally heavy rain.
Rain chances will increase towards Tuesday and Wednesday ahead of an approaching storm system, bringing isolated storms to the Southern Plains around the middle of the week.
Scattered storms will be possible from the southeast Virginia Coast southward into the Florida Peninsula Wednesday through Friday.
Highs today will range from the 60s over northern and northwestern Virginia to the 90s in Florida and portions of Texas and Oklahoma.
Highs tomorrow will range from the 70s over Virginia and much of North Carolina to the 90s over southwest Florida, the Mississippi Delta, and parts of Texas and Oklahoma.
