Hi,
I'm taking my girlfriend on a surprise cruise this March so that I can propose to her. She usually takes care of the plans when we travel, so planning a trip on my own is a little foreign to me. So far I've gotten a lot of good info from different websites and message boards. From these recommendations I've made an itinerary for the trip (the cruise goes to Cozumel, Roatan, Belize, and Cancun) for activities and such (she's 23, really adventurous, loves animals)....I really want to surprise her with the entire trip being arranged and taken care of. I would appreciate any advice or recommendations on the itinerary....THANKS!!!

Cozumel: Snuba @ 11, swim with dolphins and/or sea lions at Chankanaab, head to Playa del Sol, San Fran, and Paradise beaches for lots of fun activities (maybe snorkelling, jet ski, etc)

Roatan: Go to West Bay Islands Resort for snorkelling off shore, possibly Discover Scuba, possibly snorkel with dolphins (depending on if we did it in Cozumel), and a Tree Canopy Adventure.

Belize: Cave trek tubing and then??? (need tips here!)

Cancun: 4x4 caverns and Xpu-Ha beach; visit Xel-Ha and Xcaret

Does this sound too busy? Anything I'm missing?

THANKS AGAIN FOR THE ADVICE...I WILL POST WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE GET BACK!

Re: I'm proposing....NEED ADVICE

Just make sure you will have enough time in these ports to do all of these. You usually have to be back on the ship 1/2 hour before sail time. If you book your tours with the cruise line they wait until you get back but if you go on your own you are exactly that, on your own. Not saying that you shoudn't do somethings on your own just watch your time. Good luck and have fun.

What a fabulous guy and a fabulous idea!

Agree with the above posters - don't overbook your time - leave some time to relax and just let her stare at the ring in the moonlight!

Snorkeling is great in any of these ports and think you can find people right off the ship who are reliable and will get you there and back on time. This is less expensive than ship's excursions.

I'm sure someone will have much more advice and experience about your questions, but I just wanted to congratulate you and wish you the best!

Hi htbh,

Sounds like you have a have a very ambitious program in mind. Besides all the port excursions there is a lot of activity going on aboard ship and things could get a little hectic. You want to decide on early or late dining, if she enjoys getting dressed up late seating will allow time after you get back after shore excursions. Romantic table for two or an interesting larger table? Do you have an option for a specialty dining room experience? Flowers and champaign in the room? Maybe bring a memorable bottle of wine or champaign aboard. Maybe a special occasions event ( cake and waiters singing) to commemorate the event. It might be better to arrange one excursion in each port and research the options available to leave room for some flexibility. Your planning so far should really make a positive impression. Hope you have a great and memorable cruise.

What line are you sailing on? Last February on the Carnival SPirit, hubby and I had reservations in the supper club -- the alternative dining place that is a notch higher than the dining room and costs 25 per person plus drinks plus tip. (WELL WORTH IT, TOO) Anyway, it was awesome. We were able to get an early reservation on the first of the 2 formal nights on the cruise. We had reservations at 6 PM and we were the only ones in the whole place! We had a cozy table for 2 on the starboard (right) side of the ship and we shared the most amazing sunset -- the staff took several pictures of us with our camera with the sunset behind us. We were alone in the place until about 7 enjoying the food, the quiet and each other. It was SOOOO romantic. You might try to see if you can do this on your cruise. It might be the perfect setting to propose. Good luck! Your soon-to-be fiancee is one lucky gal! :)

If you can I would spring for a balcony. Nothing more breath taking than watching a caribbean sunset. I would seriously suggest a table for two for more romantic dinners. Call your agent or cruise line and explain that you are getting engaged and I'm sure they will give you a table for two. Also the cruise line themselves might have some suggestions on ways to make your trip more special.

CONGRATULATIONS!!

I'm thinking ship deck, as the sunsets behind you, with a cool breeze - her in a dress wearing your suit jacket (you wrap around her because of the breeze...) then you bow to one knee...

What an incredibly thoughtful man! SHe is a lucky woman!

Congrats!!

Please share the outcome and the details!!
