Taking Medicine on Board

Going on my first cruise soon and was wanting to know about taking my prescription medicine. Is it just easier to pack in suitcase or carry with me in my purse. I don't want it lost or have trouble taking it on board. Has anyone has experience with this?

Thanks so much!

Being a transplant patient I take along a lot of meds. I would recommend carrying on ALL medications. Never know if or when your luggage will be misplaced or get to you late. I have never had any trouble carrying on my meds. I keep them all in a Tupperware type of container so that they are all in one place. I used to keep photocopies of all my scripts but never needed them so that has stopped.

Blonde D, I have never had a problem with taking my meds with me, I put them all in a big baggie. You want to put them in your carry on and leave them in thier original containers so when your bag gets checked they know that they are perscription drugs.

Many states have laws regarding prescriptions drugs NOT in the original bottles. As the previous posted stated...carry them with you in a plastic zip-lock bag, and fill your "weekly dispenser" after you arrive. Always, always carry your prescription with you.

I've been having some trouble with a tooth. My dentist gave a prescription for pain meds. and antibotic which I had filled. My question is: I will take the meds. in their org. containers but when the prescription was filled they always keep the prescription and I get the bottle of meds. So how do you take your prescription with you?

The paper work that comes with the prescription is what I used to make a copy of. But as I stated, they were never needed and no questions where ever asked about the meds in the original labeled bottles. And believe me, I do take a lot with me. Once when my carry on was opened all my meds in the Tupperware type of container, which I keep on the top, was seen I did get an odd look from the TSA but no questions. Must have figured I had nothing to hide, which I didn’t. I really would not worry about it.

Thanks Kevin for the information. Are you talking about the paper that tells what the meds. are for, side effects, etc? If so than I don't have that. I threw it out by accident. If this is what you are talking about and If I need to take it with me I guess my pharmacist might would print one out for me. I also have prescription meds. for my migranes. I don't take it unless I have a bad one but do take it everywhere with me. It's in the org. bottle also but don't have the papers on it either. Since I only take it when the migranes get really bad I don't take it that often but still need it with me just incase. I will prob. just take them in their org. bottles and not get the paperwork unless you think otherwise. Thanks for the help.

So sorry it has taken me so long to get back. My Internet modem is having problems, it works on and off. Tech support can’t come till Wednesday PM

Yes the paper work that comes with the meds should have all in info as well. For instance on mine there is a portion in the upper right that I keep for insurance purposes. It has
My name
Med name and strength
How and when to take
Doctors name
And other info such as what I paid for it.

I have in the past asked my pharmacy to print out the ones that I did not have. But as I mentioned I have never been asked for those so I have stopped coping the scripts. I figure the bottles should be fine. The have my name, the Doctors name, Pharmacy and when and how I need to take them as well.

Any other questions I can help with please ask

Thanks again Kevin. I'll try to get by the Pharmacy this week to get it but if I don't make it by there than I won't worry about it since they are all in the org. bottles. Again, thanks for all the help. Hopefully I won't need any of it but have to have it with me just incase.

I made the mistake of packing medicines in the checked luggage. I needed to take prescriptions in the early afternoon but we did not receive our bags until about 10:00 p.m. Our next cruise all medications will be in our carry ons.

I always carry my meds with me. I get the worst headaches at the worst times! I also have stomach spasms meds, heart burn meds, and high blood pressure meds. I would be in pain if they ever had the chance to lose my meds.

I usually only carry the orig. bottles, I figure they have enough info. about me on them, and so far no probs.

Good luck! And have fun.
