Looking to go to Orient Beach in May on the Caribbean Princess and would not like to use the ship excursions. Anyone know the cost of a cab to the beach area? Is it easy to find one when we are ready to return? We have been to St. Maarten before but have never been to this beach and would like to spend part of the day there. Anyone have a favorite place to go at the beach to sit and have a drink or lunch. Thanks for your help.

Sure wish someone would answer you here...we are going to be in St. Maarten on April 21 and plan to do our own thing, beach and shopping. Thinking about Ever'ting Cool Beach. How far from where we dock? Shopping close by? And of course, the cost of a cab? Thanks.

Everything Cool is close to the ship. You can take a water taxi located at the end of the pier over to the beach area. It also is directly downtown on the beach and all the shopping is directly out on the street. There is no need to pay the cruise line for this trip as you can do it all on your own.

Hi- Just back two days ago from the Carnival Legend which visited St Maarten. Honey-don't you even worry 'bout taxis cause once you walk down the pier and through the visitors center, on the other side of the building there is 100's of taxis just waiting to wisk you away! They even have signs posted for each beach where you are directed to stand like a bus stop kind of thing and they move you so fast it was about 5 minutes of a wait. If there are only 2 of you they will charge you more money (like $18 a person one way) but we had a group of 8 and asked a couple next to us if they wanted to ride with us as we were only charged $5 per person. As far as on the way back, we went to Orient beach which was beautiful by the way, and again there were all kinds of taxi drivers around just waiting for your business. It was funny cause in Barbados, two taxi drivers actually fought over who was gonna get our business. They were so persistent as to who was gonna win the price got down to $2 a person! That's how they make their living and we are their paycheck. Any other questions feel free!

Very easy to get a taxi to Orient Beach. As another poster explained there are lots of them at the visitors centre right at the pier. If you use one of the mini-vans with a bunch of other people (easy to do - lots of people going to Orient Beach) - it will only cost you $5 each. When you want to return there are plenty of cabs waiting at Orient Beach. We liked Kakao Beach Club/restaurant as a place to park ourselves on the beach. Nice loungers available for rent, clean washrooms and an outdoor shower to get some of the salt off. We just had a drink at the restaurant but the menu looked nice. There are lots of places renting loungers etc - so you can find one you like. Because the beach is fairly long, we never felt overcrowded.

kujobie ,

Could you check your link for the taxi schedules? I tried it and it does not seem to work.

Thanks

Taxis are everywhere. We took one to Orient Beach, from there to Marigot, the french capital which is really neat, and then one back to the pier. We ended up seing the whole island like this. I definitly recommend Orient Beach. We saw everything cool beach coming back. It is really close to the ship, you can get there by water taxi right from the pier. If you are going to spend that much money to go on a cruise, might as well spend some more to tour the islands you are visiting.

Ditto Camelias comments. Bonus is going from Orient Neach over to Marigot which is a stunning city that has not been 'Americanized' like Philipsburg has. The nthe drive from Mariogt back to the ship has some breathtaking views. If memory serves me right, we spent about 35 bucks for the 3 different cabs, but never shared one which would have made them cheaper. If you go to Orient Beach, try Kon Tiki, great mid beach location.
