Taxis are everywhere.  We took one to Orient Beach, from there to Marigot, the french capital which is really neat, and then one back to the pier.  We ended up seing the whole island like this.  I definitly recommend Orient Beach.  We saw everything cool beach coming back.  It is really close to the ship, you can get there by water taxi right from the pier.  If you are going to spend that much money to go on a cruise, might as well spend some more to tour the islands you are visiting.
