we are cruising on the triumph on sept 6th and want to book a shore excursion for stingray city before we leave .The excursion i'm looking at starts at 9:00 am. Will I make it on time as the ship is in port @7:30am ? Does the triumph dock in port or is tendering done there ?

Grand Cayman is a tender port. I've never booked anything other than a ship excursion there, but I think there are lots of people on this board who have. Hopefully they can answer your question about the timing.

You will have plenty of time to get ashore on the tender. We booked a charter via stingraycitycharters.com outside of the cruise ship. We had a much better experience because we saw more than the cruise ship excursions, the group was smaller, and best of all we paid about half the price! Just make sure you verify with the vendor that the time you are supposed to meet is Grand Cayman time, not ship time. We were an hour early because we met at 9 a.m. ship time, not Grand Cayman time (which was 8 a.m. when we got there). Grand Cayman time is one hour behind the ship's time.

lazer,

We're gonna be on the Triumph 9/6 too!! :jump

We booked w/Captain Marvin in Grand Cayman, but we're going on the half day excursions that leaves at 10am. I see they have a full day that leaves at 9:00 am too, so I'm sure you'll have plenty of time. I'd imagine the bulk of their business comes from cruise ship passengers....!

Besides........SMASHROX sounds pretty confident you'll make it!

Have a great time, and maybe we'll see you there!

the stingray city tours are great. the website you're looking for is captainmarvins.com. A group of friends & myself found a tour on another site called caymanislandsdiscounts.com. A lot of different tours to take plus you only had to leave a $6 deposit on your credit card (per person). You pay the rest when you start your excursion. Check them both out & see what suits you. We did the stingray & snorkeling catamarran trip ($34) & it was great! A word of caution: you have to return by the SHIP's TIME. Make sure your watch is set to that time so you can return on time. My friends & I ( and a few other people) didnt hurry back to the tender after the excursion & almost missed the ship because we went by the island time! Thankfully, a tender ferry that just pulled out to go to a different location, came back for us & took us to the ship. The ship was actually waiting for us when we arrived there at 3:05 pm.
Have fun!!

Sunny7 gave you a lot of good info!!!

Although you have to give them a credit card number to rewerve your spot, Captain Marvins doesn't charge your card anything until you get there. You can pay in cash or leave the charge on the card. Our tour (1/2 day) is $39pp but the full day is $62.50 and includes a Mahi Mahi lunch. You stop at Stingray City and then the Barrier Reef and Coral Gardens for snorkeling.

I'm not famaliar with the other site, but like she said, they may have something that suits you better!!

If you decide to go w/the 1/2 day tour w/Captain Marvin, let me know so I can be on the lookout for you!!

Capt. Marvin was one of the original tour operators to the Stingray City, and to the Stingray City Sandbar. Be sure you ask for the sandbar tour unless you are an excellent, experience snorkel or swimmer for the original stingray city with it's 12 foot bottom.

About 25 different Eubanks runs tours and charters. All are very friendly, and will work with you in what ever way is necessary for you to have a wonderful time. Just be sure and let them know what time your ship leaves, and they will see to it that your needs are met.

Swimming with and feeding the stingrays is a remarkable experience you will never forget.

Georgetown is a tender only port.
