Tendered vs. Docked

Hi! Last year when we sailed on the "Adventure" all of the Islands were docked. We liked this because we could get on and off the ship easily and did it a few times per Island. In March we will be sailing on the Mariner and one location will be tendered. Can some one please explain how this works? We have booked an excursion, how do we make sure we are one of the first boats to leave the ship? And going back on do they have certain times to take passengers back to the ship or when the boat is full? Someone please explain the tendering process??

Thanks,
Familygal

You didn't mention which port you are are tendering in. Most ports have larger tenders that come to the ship to bring you on shore and sometimes the ship uses its own lifeboats. The tenders run back and forth from ship to shore on a continuous basis during the time the ship is in port. Sometimes there is a bit of as line but we have never found it to be much of a hassle with the exception of one time in Cozumel when all ships were tendered because all of the piers were destroyed by hurricane Wilma. That is no longer an issue though.

As for the excursions the earlier excursions go first and so on. so if you have an 8am excursion you will be one of the first ones called. For Grand Cayman we were in the theater and they would call a handful of excursion names and they would go in groups to the boats. So don't worry about missing your excursion.

When I went to Cabo in May we tendered and it was a nice size boat. It probably held 50-60 people. It almost felt like a mini excursion!!

I have been to Cabo three times. I have yet to see anything other than the ship's tenders (lifeboats) used for tendering ...
