MSC Cruises Has Just Posted the Following:
MSC Cruises moved closer towards leadership in the Mediterranean with an expansion plan which, by 2009, will total 11 ships offering more than one million berths and further strengthening its position as the European market leader.
In 1995 MSC Cruises started with a fleet of only two ships: MSC Monterey and MSC Rhapsody, joined in 1997 by MSC Melody.All three ships are unique in class and style, able to offer guests the comforts and intimate atmosphere found on exclusive yachts.
In 2003 the era of the four sister ships began: first to arrive was MSC Liricain 2003, joined by MSC Operain 2004 and by MSC Armoniaand MSC Sinfoniain 2005. All of the same size, they were built by Chantiers de l'Atlantique, presently known as Aker Yards France. In 2006, with the arrival of MSC Musica (launched in Venice on 29 June), began a new generation of MSC Cruises vessels. This is now being followed by MSC Orchestra, scheduled for launch in Civitavecchia on 14 May 2007, and MSC Poesia in 2008.
MSC's "Music-class"shipshave 1,275 cabins, 80% of which are ocean-view accommodations, including 65% with private balconies and public areas for a total of 22,000 square meters.
MSC Cruises has also recently confirmed another two orders for Aker Yards to build MSC Fantasiaand MSC Serenata. These are the biggest ships commissioned by a European shipowner, representing a total investment of more than one billion Euros. These two ships will each be rated at 133,500 gross registered tons, a length of 333 meters and a width of 38 meters. Each will be able to accommodate up to 3,900 passengers and 1,313 crew members.
The designs and concepts used for these ships follow the standards of elegance and sophistication of MSC Lirica, MSC Operaand MSC Musica.
MSC Cruises has sustained a development program unique in the world of international cruises. In the seven years from 2003 to 2009 the fleet will have increased by nine ships, which, together with the two others, will total 11 vessels. With this expansion, MSC Cruises maintains its high standards of excellence of onboard services, Italian cuisine, hospitality, design and sophisticated interiors, all aimed at giving guests personalized and impeccable service.
