I am going on my second cruise in june 09,I want any info on how to go on excrusions not on the ship.I see the time you have by yourself is well worth doing the stuff by yourself.I am going back to st. thomas and want to ferry over to trunk bay.Any info i will love the help. Also how to get to the baths from antique. Thanks for all the help.Is this a good idea or should I just go threw the cruise line?I was warned last cruise not to go out on your own but I see alot of people on this site have done it.Help :)

No worries getting over to St John. The ferry dock is within walking distance of the cruise dock. Across the street from the ferry dock is a rooftop open air restaurant and bar. They make some of the best rum punch I ever tasted. We never book shore excursions from the ship. Just make sure you allow ample time to get back to the ship. A good website is shoretrips. Here's the link.

mx315, we have been to St. Thomas a few times, so we decided to try St. Johns because everyone talked about it. It's a very pretty island, BUT we spent a lot of time getting there. We happened to be on a Princess cruise which didn't dock near the ferry terminal, so had to take a taxi there, then the ferry ride was I believe about 45 minutes, then we had to take a bus from the terminal at St. Johns to the beach. And then of course, the return trip :grin I'm glad we went just to see it, but the next time we went to St. Thomas we just stayed on the island and went to a perfectly nice beach without all the "hassle". That's just MHO. Never went to the Baths. I am not that adventurous :lol, but I think there are some here on C@'s that have been. Maybe you should repost this on the Cruise Q&A forum. Have a great time!

mx315, post this over on the Cruise Q&A. I think E has been to St. Johns a few times. He is just getting back from C@N@L cruise...We wanted to go to Sapphire Beach which was gorgeous. Took a taxi with 2 other couples, but our taxi driver explained that the beach was "closed" because of change of management or something or other (this was last Sept so might have changed by then) We could sit on the beach and there were some there, but there were no facilities open (bathrooms/bars/areas to dine) so she took us to another little known beach, and darned if I can remember the name of it. Blue Moon Resort rings a bell but don't quote me! This was on St. Thomas, of course, E could give you more advice about St. Johns. If you've been to St. Thomas before, it might be fun to give St. Johns a look/see. It just wasn't worth it for ME to spend 1/2 the day getting there and back. =shrug
