MSC Cruises Has Just Posted the Following:

At the Aker Yards in St. Nazaire, France, the construction of the new MSC Cruises ships is now underway. After the first steel was cut for MSC Magnifica, the technical float-out of the MSC Poesia and MSC Fantasia's transfer from one berth to another (which took place between 30 August and 1 September), it is now MSC Magnifica's turn.

On 17 September 2007 the first panel for this ship was laid at the historic Aker shipyards by the Atlantic. Weighing 135 tonnes, this panel is 14,907 mmlong, 14,115 mmwide and 1,660 mmhigh.

MSC Magnifica will be the fourth ship in the Musica class and the twelfth stylish wonder in the MSC Cruises fleet. Standing at 294 metreslong, 50 metreshigh and 32 metreswide, MSC Magnifica will have 1,275 cabins, 80% of which will be external and 65% of which will have a balcony. There will be 22,000 square metresof public space including a pool area of 1,500 square metresfor the MSC Aurea Spa wellbeing centre, restaurants, play areas for children with different themes and a theatre - all exciting facilities for unforgettable cruising.

Four ships are currently being built for the MSC Cruises fleet at Aker Yards in St.Nazaire. MSC Poesia, the third ship in the Musica class will be delivered in April 2008 followed by MSC Fantasia and her sister ship MSC Splendida, two of the biggest ships ever built for a European shipowner. These will be delivered in November 2008 and June 2009. These two ships will be the most magnificent ships in the world of MSC Cruises and will introduce a new concept of cruise ships - a new era for holidays on the sea.
