The previous posts gave good advice. I too, have taken these tours and enjoyed them. We have a sort of port rule we follow. If we've never been there before, we try to take the tour that will give us a sense of what the place is like. And we know that we will be in for the usual share of sights that are not really worth seeing (but you never know that till you go). So we keep an open mind and go along. On a return trip to a port (we are cruise addicts, after all), we will opt for a snorkel tour or get a cab to a local beach. We've never had a problem with a cab returning to take us back to the ship.
