This Christmas I'm making home-made liqueurs for gifts! Mmm...

I haven't make fruit liqueurs for Christmas for a long time, but I want to do it this year. I pulled out my old recipes, actually, an old issue of Cuisine magazine from November 1982. (I think I better laminate those pages!)

My favorites are the VERY BERRY BRANDY, and the BRANDIED APRICOTS WITH ALMONDS. But I found a recipe for CRANBERRY LIQUEUR http://www.guntheranderson.com/liqueurs/cranberr.htm that got me thinking about doing this again.

They make wonderful Christmas gifts, and I can't wait to do it again.

Have you ever made home made liqueurs???

No, but I once made a fruitcake that was sooooo loaded with brandy it was like a brick. (hic!). I made it for my Dad. He is the only one in the world that likes fruitcake......Yuck!

Oops, sorry BJ.:lol You must be the *other* one that likes fruitcake. :D

I made the fruitcake in a loaf pan and drenched the heck out of it for weeks.

Actually the fruit liqueurs sound like a great gift. Better that a brandy soaked fruitcake as far as I'm concerned.

The liquors are always a great gift. And you can buy such nice cloth bags now with pretty ornaments to tie them up. Last year I saw some really neat bags at Big Lots but I wasn't giving liquor so I didn't get them.

Glo - I've never made any, but I'll be glad to volunteer to taste-test! :grin Oh wait, this diet I'm on allows no alcohol. :(

But I, too, used to make a liqueur-laden fruitcake (yes, heavy) that everybody loved. My late Mom found the recipe and cut it out of the paper because it was called "Marianne fruitcake".

The homemade liquers sound lovely. Definitely a Christmas treat....but give over with bad mouthing fruit cake :grin! I'm another one that loves it! My Mom makes the very best one...laced with brandy and iced with Almond Paste! YUMMY!!! If you don't like fruit cake you've probably only tasted those ugly store bought offerings ::eek: !

Thnx, I saved the cranberry recipe. I use cranberries over the holidays and always have extra. Now I know what to do with them. I best get started now if I want some ready for X-mas. :)

I too make homemade kahlua, and it is very tasty. I've done the Baileys once, but I don't drink enough of it to warrant making it. Plus, I've found Ryan's Irish Cream at the liquour store and at the low price it is, and the great taste, I just don't bother making it.

Amaretto Recipe:
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 cups water
4 cups vodka
1/4 cup almond extract
4 tsp. vanilla extract

Dissolve sugars in water in a pan over medium heat. Heat until boiling and all sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Add vodka, almond extract, and vanilla. Store in a sealed decorative bottle.

Sorry if I offended any fruitcake fans. I am suprised how many fruitcake lovers there are on this board. LOL!

Denise we are Fruitcakes and fruitcake lovers, does that make us cannibals? =lolgang

Irish Cream Liqueur

1 3/4 c. whiskey
1 (14 oz.) can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk
1 c. half/half or light cream
2 tbsp. chocolate flavored syrup
2 tsp. instant coffee
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Mix all together in a blender and store in the refridgerator.

The recipe calls for 4 eggs. I do not like to use the eggs and instead add 1/2 cup whipping cream for
thickness.

Grandmas Kahlua

Mix 13 ounces of sugar with 14 ounces of strong perked coffee
Add 1/4 cup coffee extract
Add 10 ounces of Vodka

Blend and bottle.
