We will be taking the whole family four adults 39, 43, 50 and 73 with kids 10 and 12. We are wait listed for seating in the dining room, which time is better for quicker service under two and half hours? Would it be wise to tip $100 or more to the Mater D? (To insure seating time) Please reply. All coments welcome thank you so much!

Have you considered Personal Choice dining rather than traditional?

It's been our experience that the Maitre D's have not accepted the tips - just our past experience. You are welcome to try - maybe it will help. As for dinner under 2 1/2 hours? I don't think I have ever had a meal take that long unless we wanted it to.

On our cruise on the grand in december of 03, we had chosen personal choice dining.... however , the first night we arrived at the dining room we were seated at a perfect table, had a perfect waitress, and wanted it that way the rest of the week... we did not switch to traditional,,, what we did was tip the matrd 20.00 to make the our table , the rest of the week, we also told him we would be arriving to dinner at 7-7:30 every night... so we had personal choice but got traditional at our time same table same waitress all week long...

Now our matred was so wonderful on the second night we tipped him 10.00 he spent the next 6 days bringing us very fancy huge appextizers that no one else was getting, free bottles of wine... at the end of the week we gave him another 30.00,

We were a group of 4 . Hope this helps...

Also we never waited for dinner , we would walk up to the dining room where there would be a line about 15 or so deep, and we would stand to the side, Guido would then waive us right on back, no matter what time we got there, no waiting at all..

IT WAS TRULY AWESOME
