The recommended tip (which is added to your sign-and-sail card ) is $10 per passenger per day. It covers your cabin steward and wait staff in the formal dining room. You can add (or subtract) to this amount to reflect the degree of service you feel that you have received (do this at the Purser's desk at the end of the cruise).

NOT included is the %15 added to beverage orders at the bar, poolside, etc. Also not included is a tip for room service delivery (a few bucks here ensures speedy delivery next time!) Your Maitre'd also receives tips, and from this board, I have learned that most people base his tip (if any) on above-and-beyond personal service. I also follow this philosophy. Read more posts on this board and you will learn a LOT!

Good Luck!

Covkid - To further explain Carnival's automatic tipping:

$10 per person per day is the first entry on your Sail & Sign account. These may be adjusted up or down or removed completely - BUT it's a very fair amount, and I'm sure most people leave the tips 'as is' on their account.

The amount breaks down as follows:
$5.50 per person per day for your dining room waiter and assistant.
$3.50 per person per day for your cabin steward.
$1.00 per person per day for the Lido Deck buffet staff.

Room service food/beverages (except alcoholic) are included in the price of your cruise, but it's nice to tip the delivery person $1-2 each time you have an order delivered.

No other tipping is necessary on the ship. All beverages will have a 15% tip included in the charge on your S&S card. (Prior to boarding the ship, it's customary to tip the porter at the dock $1 per piece of luggage. They are not Carnival employees.)

As far as the Maitre d' goes - I would guess that about half the passengers tip him/her. There will be an envelope in your cabin on the last day IF you choose to tip the Maitre d'. I do not do this unless he has done something special for me during the cruise.

I also give my cabin steward a little extra at the end of the cruise.

Hope this clarifies the tipping situation for you?
