How NCL currently works is that there is an optional $10 per person per day charge added to your room charge to cover tips, or $70 per person for a 7 day cruise. Due to the freetsyle dining, you don't have the same wait staff on a daily basis, so the typical means of handing out tips at the end of the cruise doesn't work very efficiently. Supposedly this charge is going to become mandatory, as it was originally set up on the POA, but there has been so much trouble with the POA that I don't know if they're going ahead with that plan.Having said that, we tipped extra for the cabin stewards on our Alaska trip on the NCL Sun, as they did a great job for the 4 of us. We also ended up requesting the same waiter each night, and tipped them a little extra, also. Your sister needs to understand, however, that the tips weren't included in her original cruise price, but will be charged to her shipboard account.
