TLC's Drydock - Sovereign

Did anyone see the series on Sovereign's refurbishment on The Learning Channel? It was really well done and I got a sense of how dedicated the employees really are. RCCL should also be commended because they showed all of the warts of the project. Good God, they had more than a couple of Hefty bags of trash to pick up. LOL. What I really thought was neat was how they moved the new furniture into the ship....basically dozens and dozens of people handing it off like a bucket brigade at a fire.

Here is the schedule of the episodes.

The Royal Caribbean employees were dedicated. The dock workers ... well, lets just say that if I did what they did I would be unemployeed. How many coats of paint did the pool end up with? I lost count at five. I think I would have posted a guard with a gun after the third time. That painter must be rich by now. :lol

I thought the special was great! I just got back from the Sovereign a month ago and had no idea all that they did to do the upgrades! It was cool to see the before & after and to recognize some of the staff from our trip - Kevin was our CD and the captain and lots of faces looked familiar. I can't imagine working on the refit team - they did a fantastic job and I thought the ship was beautiful!!!

Great job on the special TLC and Kudos to all the folks who worked on the SOS update!

I also thought it was well done and enjoyed the series very much. I have to agree, I would not want to be on the refit team, the stress to meet the deadline would take away many years of your life.
I hope that they did one for the Enchantment. It would be really cool to see it split and rebuilt. :grin

I also watched all 5 shows....its amazing what they wanted to get done in 23 days, and that they actually did get it done....I agree, way to much stress for me....and to see the good and bad that occured during the refit...real life. Watching the poor men worrying about their families after the storms in polynesia....
it was nice to see that they didnt sugar coat anything.....lots of bumps along the way. And I also hope that the Enchantment shows up on TV....how kewl would that be.....

Yup, I watched too and even stayed up late to finsih the series last Sunday. It was amazing! I'll certainly appreciate the ship alot more when I get on in December after watching all the hard work that went into her revitalization. I sure hope the run another special on how the Enchantment was stretched, cause' I'd watch that one too!
PS
I think TLC is running it again this Sunday for those that missed the series. Chcek out TLC's website for their show shedules. :)

Mmketeer.....next cruise's: RCCL/ SOS 12/16 & DCL/ Wonder 2/2/06

I think the execs were a litte unrealistic witht he timetable. Though they did complete it, I would rather have the job done right than fudge it together and save a week. Plus the toll it takes on the crew and team. Not sure it the best way to manage people. But hey, the ship sailed on time and it was one impressive feat..

Hi Shirley

This aired on the US The Learning Channel, which is owned by Discovery Communications. It might pop up on the Discovery Channel UK lineup of channels sometime. It is not being aired in the US at present. I believe the title was called Dry Dock: A Cruise Ship Reborn and there were 5 or 6 episodes. I don't think a dvd is available at this time.

Ill see if I can make a few copies.. I dont think this is illegal as it was apublically aired show and I am not selling it.. If I can, anyone who will cover postage can have a copy.. Dont claim to be the best. I tried to edit out the Commercials as best I can but a few times I was so engrossed, I forgot to stop the recorder during them. Give me a day to see what I can do..
