HEY! Hope you all had a great Christmas and hope you all have a great New Year.

We are wondering if anyone knows of topless and/or nude beaches in Cozumel and/or Costa Maya. We're going on the Sensation in June, and DEFINITELY want to do some "catchin' rays" time. Thanks!

(and no, we're not perverts, we're just married and far from dead)

By the way, I read that you can rent mopeds when you arrive at the port in Cozumel and Costa Maya.....is that true, and if so, how much for the day?

Mexico is a strongly religious country (mostly Catholic) and they do not allow nude bathing. They are generally a very modest people, and when outside of resort areas, it is recommended that visitors dress modestly. This means no shorts for women, and certainly, no parading around in bathing suits. So, you will want to keep your topless bathing to the top deck of the cruise ship! Have Fun!

Ed, we've been to Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, and also made a couple of trips to Isla Mujeres, and topless sunbathing is the norm everywhere we went. And women (we went in June each year) were ALL in shorts..........including the women in the shops downtown.
Topless on the ship sounds great..........but from what we read, theres so much to do on the ship we'll have to find time!

Wow! Things must have really changed in the last 8 years. I was on a guided tour through Mexico, and was informed that topless or nude sunbathing was illegal. We spent time in both Cancun and Isla Mujeres. I was also informed that it was extremely disrespectful to wear resort clothing outside of a resort area. (obviously, the entire city of Cancun is a resort area. I think my guide was more referring to Mexico city, or some of the little villages that we stopped in). But, I was fairly certain that you could be arrested for public nudity, including sunbathing. I guess the times have changed!

ED, topless sunbathing, ESPECIALLY at Isla, has been happening for more than 8 years! Of course, I agree with ya, in the middle of the city would NOT be a good place to walk around nekkid....LOL.

What on earth has sunbathing nude have to do with being or not being dead. You are dead if you don't go nude in a public place??? Come on, I not am not dead and we're far from dead in or out of bed, and very very married, and none of it has anything to do with nudity in public.

PLG, first off, I'm not going to sit here and call you a "prude" because you aren't comfortable getting naked on a beach. Secondly, thanks for putting words in my mouth. Lastly, thanks for your unrequested opinion, and we'll keep that in mind when we decide to give a crap about what you think. Thanks!

Public place , public opinion given by yourself and me. You seem kind a touchy and opinionated. You're the one that made the crack about not dead equates nude sun bathing. Kind a crappy!

I think there are alot of reasons people like to tan in the nude. I wonder how many people actually go to a tanning bed in a swim suit? Some do, but I would bet a larger portion do not.

PLG, you said "You're the one that made the crack about not dead equates nude sun bathing.:"

I never made that statement. But why let facts get in the way, right? LOL.

I think what mikeandbeck was trying to say was, they are a young happily married couple who like to have fun, i dont think that they were imposing any mean ill wil towards anyone... my dear husband and i are 26 and 34 and though after a long work week we feel like the dead :) I think it just means that they are up for anything. I hope any ways :)

we were in cozumel several years ago (again in april and going again in three days) and there are several areas on any given beach where topless sunbathing is allowed - mostly being away from the "crowded areas"; @ paradise beach you can go the end of beach, away from families, otherwise you have to leave. i dont think anyone will say anything as long as you are in a more private area of the beach (at least they didnt to me).

and fyi i am OLD, married and have FIVE children - but still not dead! lol

nudity isn't about "looking" or being "perverted"... it's about body acceptance and feeling free and natural

anyhoo....Mexico is conservative, and you will have a hard time finding a beach like that

Exactly, Miz. You said it better than I did. Guess some people can't help but knock other people, and probably due to some self-doubt about themselves.
Hucc, as posted above, we've been to Mexico four times, and saw topless every time we went. Thanks, though!

Topless is not the same as nude. Men and women both have breasts (can I say that word?) In fact, I have seen plenty of man chests that should be covered up! ;)

I think Hucc and I were referring to the nude issue that was raised, not the topless issue.

Topless and nude in public infringes on others rights. I have NO problem with myself. I have on problem being nude or topless, but I prefer privacy of my own home or yard or out backpacking in deserted area, or private beaches, but not where I impose on others. Especially in a foreign country, and around young people or children. That should be a parents choice. You assume too much! My thinks thou doth protest way too much. And way to much has been said by both of us. My opinion again. NO more from me on this.

All should consider that you will be in a foreign country subject to their laws and the interpretation of them by the local police etc. Getting into a "situation" especially in Mexico might be no big deal or could become a very big deal very quickly and you will bear the cost of 'getting back to the boat' and whatever other issues that arise. For a tan?? Good luck.

PLG, you posted "I have NO problem with myself. I have no problem being nude or topless..... "

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

And I wasnt 'the one who started the "protesting". But I now understand why you did, so i'll leave it alone. I hope your situation improves!

Mr. Sancho's will let you pull your beach chairs down the beach a little way from the main area for topless sunbathing.
