Tracked Down HAL Artist

Ran across this link to Stephen J. Card, Captain,, MNI. Not just an interesting background, but an extremely tallented artist, who has specialized in maritime art ... Holland America Lines in particular. If you've sailed on HAL, you've probably seen some of his work, usually hanging in the main stairwells or the penthouse suites.

Maritime artist Captain Stephen J. Card - Introduction page

At the bottom of the screen are links to Holland America, Cunard, Premier and a couple other folios.

I don't know what his paintings go for, but sure would like to own one ....

Enjoy ...

Enjoyable indeed, Calgon. I love his paintings. However, there's at least one error

Maritime artist Captain Stephen J. Card - Cunard-page 4

The lower left - painting of QE2 with HMY Britannia. The date was not July 2, 1990. I was aboard QE2 for the ceremony. The date was somewhere around July 27, 1990.

For those who love Stephen Card's beautiful work, you probably would enjoy his book, Holland America Line "The Spotless Fleet", Maritime Paintings by Stephen J. Card, M.N.I.

This is a really wonderful book of his paintings on HAL ships and we treasure our copy.

John- I received a signed print (approx. 8X10) when I subscribed to a cruise newsletter last year. I was able to pick from a short list, and I chose the Amsterdam. I also received a $50pp OBC for our cruise on the Amsterdam next month! My subscription cost $30. What a deal!

I put it in a black frame, and it is sitting on my desk at work until we leave. Soooo pretty!!

I've been a member of the WOCLS for years - among other things, for those not familiar with the organization - they publish a nice newsletter and e-mail letter, the latter written by the noted ship historian and author, William (Bill) Miller.

I have also belong to WOCLS for years -- never got anything for renewing my subscription.

That $50 shipboard credit cannot be combined with other shipboard credits that we get -- at least that is what HAL tells us.

You probably did not let your membership lapse as I did. My TA said HAL has honored the OBC and it is on my invoice for my upcoming cruise on Amsterdam. And you're right, my OBC is from my TA, not HAL.

We get shipboard from booking a future cruise while on a cruise, from AMEX Plat and from owning Carnival stock. That is why HAL won't let us use the WOCLS.

I agree. We didn't renew and then got nice offers.
Through the years, though, even when we did renew promptly we got a OBC certificate to use on HAL ships. It was sometimes accepted by HAL and sometimes not. I'm sure we used it at least 3 or 4 times but it's been a while. We also got the other OBC's.

Eventualy I got tired of the publication. It always seemed to say the same thing over and over. I found we were tossing it without reading much of each edition.

We don't sail HAL often, but when we do I subscribe. The coupon is worth $50pp for a balcony cabin and $30pp for lower.
