My husband and I will be going on the Transatlantic cruise on Sept 10 2005 from Dover to NJ on the Constellation. This will be our first cruise, in celebration of our 20th wedding anniversary! But we have done lots of European travel, mainly to ski. Looking forward to meeting you, catwomanly, and others. We hope to do many of the shore excursions on our own, with maybe one or two exceptions, so if anyone is of like mind, let me know.

Hi guys..

D& J
Welcome to the Cruise..

Your Comments bring up a good point.. What's everybody doing as far as excursions or tours ?? We've been to London (many times) and Amsterdam, and Brugges.
So This trip in Brugges we're basicly going just stroll around and enjoy the sights . One thing specificly we want to do in Amsterdam is hit the Vincent Van Goug museum .. And We're doing a couple of pre-cruise days in London...

But the big question is what to plan for Le Harve.. Umm?? 12 hours is enough time to do alot of things .. But what ??? Silvia ( My Dear Wife) is of a mind to rent a car and explore the countryside .. (we've already been to Normandy and the WWII landing beaches which may be a option for you guys to see ) . I on the other hand wouldn't mind a return visit to Paris, but the nearly 3 hour transfer doesn't thrill me... So .. What to do with our 12 hours in France ??

Anybody have any suggestions ??

As usual I rambled to long ..LOL

France was the one port where we were actually contemplating going to Mont St Michelle. Paris in one day seemed too rushed, even though we have not been there. We too are going to be in England a few days before departure but probably in the Canterbury/Dover area. Our honeymoon 20 years ago was to England and Scotland which we did on our own staying in B&Bs and using a rental car.

Most of the other ports we expect to do on our own.

From Le Havre don't miss Honfleur. We were in Honfleur for three days but not from a cruise. It is a wonderful little medieval town and the birthplace of Impressionism. The Boudin Museum is interesting as are many of the other sites. Great place for wandering and eating at the wonderful yacht harbor cafes.

Hi guys!!
We don't really know what we are going to do yet in all the ports, we are researching all the great places to go, but any ideas are greatly appreciated! We have never been to Europe before so we will probably do all the touist stuff... I know my husband wants to play a round of golf in Ireland, he's Irish and a big Golfer, one of his dreams is to play golf there. In amsterdam we want to visit some "coffee shops" and take in some of the local flavor hehe... hey why not, its our one chance!! We will be in Dover a day early, where are u guys all staying? We havent booked airfare or rooms yet, we are also going to stay for a couple days in NYC once we return to port. We will be celebrating our first anniversary, so D&J we'll have a big ol anniversary celebration with u guys!! You can teach us a thing or two!!
So glad to meet 2 other couples so far, only 9 more months to go... argh...so far away!!!
Talk to you soon!! I'll check often on this board!!

Hey there, I registred for a cruise connection party for our cruise this is how u do it...

You can access the link to register for a Celebrity Cruises/Cruise Critic Party as follows:
1. Visit www.cruisecritic.com and visit the Celebrity Cruises message boards.
2. Click on Celebrity Cruises/Connections parties. Once there, you may use your reservation ID/Booking Number and follow the instructions to register for a Celebrity Cruises/Cruise Critic Connections party

It seems pretty cool... meeting others before we sail, although i don't know if you get email addresses for others ... I hope to talk with a bunch of people before we go so that we have more fun!! Plus signing up for this party, they throw us a party on the cruise, and hey any excuse for another party is good!! :)

Hi all,

We did this cruise last year and I highly recommend Honfleur. You could easily spend several hours just wandering around this wonderful (ancient) little town. In addition, we did the Normandy invasion
area which was excellent but very sad.

Wish you all a wonderful trip. We ran into some really bad weather due to the hurricane activity in the
South Atlantic. Caused us to miss Iceland completely, but that's cruising. You have to expect the
unexpected.

Have a wonderful trip. We will be on the Summit doing the West Coast and Alaska for 14 days.

Does anyone know where, exactly the ship docks in Ireland? Is it Ringaskiddy? I noticed that the Connie docked there last September. Is it determined by the draft of the ship? I need to know for an excursion. I'm planning to go salmon fishing...

Hi Catwomanly,

We were on the Constellation for the trans Atlantic cruise last Sept. We had a great group from the cruise critic group, some 160 people if memory serves. Had a wonderful cruise on a great ship. We spent a couple of days at the Churchill Hotel in Dover and can recommend it with confidence. If you leave by the front entrance you are two blocks from the city center, and if you are on the other side of the hotel you can watch the Constellation sail into port if you can get up early enough. Nice little pub type lounge adjacent to the registration desk, and a nice English breakfast embarkation day. You may need some help making arrangements to get to Dover, it's a long way, and without cruise transfers can take some research.

For D&J- the Dublin port call was changed to Belfast last year due to the draft required by the Connie. We docked across the harbor from the city in Belfast but they had a shuttle into the city. Nice scenic ride and we spent a nice afternoon in the city.

Petert: The Connie will be stopping at Cork, which I beleive is not near Dublin. But at Cork, there are three berths: Cobh, Cork and Ringaskiddy. The last 2 years they were scheduled to stop in Ringaskiddy, form the Port Authority logs. So I'm presuming they will use that dock again. You say you stopped in Dublin? Did you sail in Sept from Dover to NJ? I'm getting more confused by the minute!!!
