Has anyone arranged transportatation from London to the Port on their own. Princess wants $176.00 each roundtrip. That seems high but I don't know whats involved in geting to Southhamton.

Thanks

I agree with you Russ that that seems very high. I have not travelled the route with luggage, but live about one third of the way between Central London and Southampton.

Depending on where in London you will be travelling from, there is a good train service to Southampton from where a taxi would happily take you to the cruise terminal. Goodness, for that money, you could possible get a private driver all the way!

Wow, I thought it was high in August of 2002 when we paid $123 each round trip but $176 boggles the mind.

We did a lot of our own thing when we were on the British Isles cruise back then and didn't have much trouble at all. Trains and the tube arequite good and a lot less expensive.

You might want to base your decision on how much luggage you have to haul around. That can be the deciding factor for me.

My husband just reminded me that the dollar was a lot stronger when we were there than it is now and that probably accounts for a good 25% of the increase.

The train station is very close to the ship and there are always plenty of taxis to accommodate plenty of passengers. The train to/from Southhampton to /from London is cheap and fast. And there is a two-for-one special attractions (museums, theatre tickets) special for booking.

Sailing on the Royal Princess 5/19, will arrive in London on the 18th. We are planning on taking the train to the ship.

Does anyone have the website for the train for schedules, etc. I've done it twice before to Dover.

A good UK site to try is The Trainline http://www.thetrainline.com Just key in the relevant date and time of travel and it will give you a detailed timetable and idea of the cost. Not sure however whether you can make an overseas booking, so you may not be able to take advantage of saver tickets i.e. the earlier you book the more you save.
