travelers checks

While we are cruising on celebrity, we'll be down in the southern caribbean, anyone have any advice on if we bring some travelers checks, where we can get them cashed? On the ship in the casino? Elsewhere on the ship, and will the bigger ports like St. John in (US Virgin Islands) have shops that will take travelers checks?
I'm also wondering about where to buy postage stamps for the postcards while we're down there, a friend of mine told me each island has a different rate, so is it easy to buy postage stamps, or not?
These last minute questions come up as the time approaches, as you all know so well!

We used to take travelers cheques and you can cash them at the ship's "Bank" or the casino. Also most larger stores will take them throughout the caribbean. Your friend is correct on the postage. Sometimes the ship will have some for and island or two but don't count on it. Never looked ashore actually but in the main ports you should be able to find them fairly easy.

You might be better off using an ATM card . There are machines every where including the ship.

You can cash basically 100's per day either at the pursers desk or in the casino. I have never been limited to an amount because if you have american express,, its like cash.

If you want to be innovative, you can get free cash on your credit cards from the casino up to 5000 or $8000. It is charged as a purchase and there are no fees if you pay it off timely.

Last cruise I used my AA Advantage card to get over $8,000 in casino cash. I kept the cash, deposited it in my acct when returning to the states and got basically 8,000 american airline miles.

Note: If you bring in more then $10K in cash you have to report it so stick with amounts lower than that.
