trouble with statements

My friend and I booked out Constellation cruise (08/19/04) through
Celebrity itself. We were quoted several different charges and options at time of booking.

When we got our statement, it was different, total price and everything. I called the travel consultant I had talked to, and she explained about fees. OK, we knew there were port fees and airline surcharges etc. but we had asked for a total price.
Still nothing added up.

I asked for an itemized statement which came this weekend. STILL nothing adds up -- total price is greater than the sum of its parts. I have called the company, got no satisfaction and am waiting to hear from the sales manager.

Has anyone else had this problem with Celebrity? I have made four trips with Cunard lines in last four years and never had to question a thing.

I am not ordinarily a complainer. I just like to know what I am being charged for right up front. We cancelled another cruise with a discount agency because they tried to add some "lookup" fees which we felt were unwarranted.

Joan:

Sorry to hear that you are getting a run-around. Although my personal experiences with Celebrity customer service has been rather positive, I have read many postings from people whe are irate about it. I tried using local travel agents on numerous occasions & have not had good experiences either. We booked a few times with BuyCruises.com & found them to have very good pricing, along with a strong customer service department. We used their website to shop but called directly to book.

Good luck.

Celebrity's shore/admin. sometimes leaves a bit to be desired. I have always gotten it straightened out finally though. Just don't give up.

Joan,
I have had much better service by using a T.A. I once thought by booking a future cruise with a Captain's club Mgr. on the ship during and Alaskan Cruise, I would get a better price.
Not so. They give it to whatever travel agent you ask them to. The travel agent will be the one to give you the discount. After that I have had better luck getting correct information from Celebrity by using the travel agent. Each time I call Celebrity I give a booking number, but I get a different person. Different people give me different answers.
The travel agent calls Celebrity all day long depending on which passenger she is representing and begins to know what information is correct and which is not.
I recently called Celebrity Captain's club and spoke to four different agents and got at least one different answer to the same question. Sometimes the question remains the same and the answer they are told to give changes.
I really think using a good T.A is the best way to go. I have just recently found a new one but she is tops.
Remember a good travel agent with a good company carrys a lot more weight than you as one passenger. They are usually skilled in the negotiations process, such as trying to get you certain perks.
They are still mostly paid by commission. When they make special reservations for you they can charge you. I recently paid $25 for an agent to make some plane reservations for me. If you have ever done complicated airline reservations yourself, you will understand the $25 can be worth it.
