i may have to decide between the two in early december. both would entail a ferry ride- from tortola to either one or, the next day, from st. thomas to cruz bay, st. john. the other consideration is that the trip from st. thomas to st. john and trunk bay would be on a saturday (dec. 14th). would we be avoiding the crowds by going to trunk bay on friday? thanks

Although somewhat confused by your post...i would choose the Baths over Trunk bay. There is not a spot like it anywhere. It was the highlight of our recent trip to the Virgin islands. There is a beach there for you to swim at too. Just gorgeous

We just returned from a cruise that went to both places. If you could swing it, I would strongly advise going to both. Virgin Gorda, The Baths are beautiful with coral sands and huge boulders, some which have cracked right down the middle probably thousands of years ago. The water has a high mineral content and is very salty, but wonderful to swim in. Trunk Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever seen. The sand is rich, dense, thick, and luxurious and the swimming is very pleasant. If you are interested in trying snorkeling it's a great place because there is a free virtually guided tour (plaques under the water to follow) that is easy to take and you actually see lovely coral and colourful fish. It would be very difficult for me to choose between the two. Both have a fairly long water taxi ride too, but it's also a great way to see the shore lines!
