TSA luggage locks question

Hi,

My question is whether to lock or not to lock our luggage. I know the only luggage locks the airlines approve are the TSA locks. They have a combination only you know but airport security can open the locks with a master key if needed. The locks are around $7.00 a piece times how many suitcases you have. It can be expensive if a whole family is traveling together. Still, if you buy souvenir's or gifts, you don't want to take a chance that they will get stolen. I was wondering if any of you use these locks or just take your chances with unlocked luggage.

Thanks for your help!

I have used TSA locks for all of our cruises. We don't fly but i just feel better having the luggage locked. I bought ours at ebags.com but you can find them at Walmarts.

You can buy TSA approved locks that use a key besides the combination ones.

Really a small price for peace of mind.

Thanks a lot for your help Nancy. I think you're right. It's worth the price of the locks for peace of mind.

And I am one of those trusting soles that doesn't lock anything: well I do the car most of the time and I rarely leave the house unlocked.

I use twist ties, and have never had a problem. They're free (I'm buying the trash bags, anyway), easy to use, and if you twist them around enough times, pretty secure. TSA can still get in if need be, but the time involved will dissuade those with less than good intentions.

I also make sure to secure empty pockets so that no one can put anything INSIDE my bag.

I use the TSA locks. Basically locks keep honest people honest. I would rather lose $7 on the lock then go through the frustration of realizing someone stole something from me, even if the item stolen is worth less than $7.

We have always used the TSA locks, and have never had any problems. Would rather spend the money on the lock to be safe, then have something stolen that was important to me.

Happy Cruising!

Kim.
