I just did the tulum excursion is September on the Victory. The price seems high but it includes the ferry and the bus ride. If you do not do an excursion I am not sure how you would get to Playa Del Carmen. The only ferrys I saw available were for cruise passengers who bought the excursion. If you find a way to get a ferry ride it is a very easy route to get there. I think we made one turn coming out of Playa Del Carmen and it was a straight way to it. Also the shopping maybe is for 30 minutes. They just take you to one store that sells jewelry and rugs and and the end there is a small gift shop (overpriced)..

Also in Mexico I would stick with the cruise tours, it's not the nicest place.. When you come out of the one giftshop there is guy standing at the back door with a machine gun! So like I said in Mexico stick with the cruise sponsered tours unless you plain to just stay in Cozumel.
