we did this once... and it was so easy

they will be in your cabin some time during embarkation day

at the end of the cruise, you just leave them in your cabin, and they will be picked up

so easy!

Just did this a couple of weeks ago on the Grand, it was in the closet when we arrived and we were on before noon. The fit depends on how well you take your measurements. The pants and jacket fit very well. The shirt, while it fit, was not comfortable, next time I will not go with the point collar, I'd get the regualr collar.

I just reat this on another board and since it is from a man I thought I might steal it:

I'm fairly new around here, but in that short time I've seen several postings regarding tuxedo rental. I'm a bit surprised and disappointed that we are not all better dressed than that.

I'd like to offer a few reasons to not rent a tuxedo. Pardon if my attitude shows a little.

Renting used clothes is something kids do to dress themselves for proms and weddings. If you're big enough to book your own cruise, you're big enough to buy your own clothes.

A well dressed gentleman (this should include any man successful enough to vacation on a cruise ship) has a tuxedo in his wardrobe. Tuxedos are not just for cruising. I wear mine 2-3 times per year when I'm not cruising. Wear it when you take your wife out on your anniversary - she deserves it. I guarantee you'll get better service all evening...

You need your own tux so you can get it properly fitted. Don't rely on the clerk at the rental place to get it perfect, likely he won't. There's no substitute for a good fit.

Many rental tuxedos are made of polyester so they'll stand up to heavy use and frequent cleaning. You've worked hard to dress yourself better than that. And who knows how worn the tux you might get will be.

All the itineraries I've seen have informal and casual nights in addition to formal nights. You'll need a nice coat for the informal nights, and packing a tuxedo is no more difficult than packing a good suit. You won't need extra luggage.

Lastly, save your money. Buying a tux costs about the same as renting one twice. We're all addicts here, so we KNOW we'll be needing that tuxedo again and again.

Our next cruise will have three formal nights, so I went on EBay recently and got a few more accessories to put a little splash-n-dash into the same-o same-o. Didn't want to look like a penguin with a tic, and didn't cost hardly nuthin' either.

Hey, you're a successful man! Dress like it!

My husband has a beautiful tux he owns but decided to rent one for the convenience on one cruise because we were staying in the islands for a week following the cruise and did not want to deal with carrying the tux with us. It turned out great---so great, in fact, that he is considering doing it again. He packed his own shirts and studs to "customize" his formal look. His pictures are great, and he was happy, so I was happy. It fit well because he had a tailor measure him, and those are the measurements he used.

The fact that he was in a rental tux in no way made his less of a "well-dressed" gentleman or a "successful man" than when he wears his own designer tux.

One more word on tuxes. While getting your own tux fitted to your measurements may make sense if you wear one a few times a year and cruise often, renting is just fine. My husband is 6' 5", broad in the shoulders with fairly long arms. We had a problem only once-- the jacket sleeves were a tad short. We appealed to our cabin steward for help and in no time, the sleeves were lengthened and pressed. He looked great as do all men who "choose to tux." FYI on some cruises you may not see your tux in the room that first day. Depending on the ship's itinerary, you may see it arrive in your cabin after the first port, but always check with customer service if you don't see your tux, your shore excursion tickets, or anything else you are expecting to see. Also, the shop aboard usually has a few tuxes available, but I don't know if they have a great variety of sizes.

We just rented 3 of them (2 sons and husband). For longer cruises, it's really nice not to have to pack all the formalwear. Can't wait to see them all dressed up! :)
