Uh-Oh: Put In A Handicapped Room On The Grand

I attempted to stay within my same category (BA) on the Grand, but move closer to the elevators. When I called Princess they said there were only 2 cabins left. One, as I looked at the deck map, was right next to an elevator. After I changed cabins and hung up, I realized that the room I am now in is a handicapped accessible room. Does anyone know anything about these rooms? Are they less preferable to a regular room? Also, will people frown on me, that I'm not handicapped, but in a handicapped room? I don't want to leave some wheelchair-bound person without a room. (Oh the guilt.)

The Handicapped cabins are great (in my opinion anyway...) we stayed in one a while ago. What they've done is put two handicapped cabins in the space of three regular cabins, so you've got a cabin that's one and a half times the width of a regular cabin ...which also makes the balcony one and a half times as large. If you are in a BA, I assume you're on the Caribe deck - - C301-304 ?? If so, you also have the balcony that's deeper as well, so you'll have a huge space out there.

The only noticeable difference was in the bathroom; It's huge, it has an elevated toilet, and the shower is a roll-in, so there is no ledge and the water that doesn't make it into the drains tends to run all over the bathroom ...and in our case a little onto the carpet outside the bathroom (no ledge in the bathroom doorway either) ...but the room steward took care of all that.

You will not be scorned by your fellow passengers - - the assumption is that the cabin was not needed.

If it is needed, you may be reassigned. That's the reason why I avoid them... if it's needed, then you may have to show medical evidence that you qualify for it, or someone else may get it. But if they don't needed, you have a nice room and no need to feel guilty!

If you get it, they are HUGE!!! My mom and her friend had one on the Sea Princess. They are great, but they will bump you if someone truly needs it.
