Update from the dr

Well, we have some good news & some not so good. The good news is that the chemo has worked really well on all of the tumors in the chest & the dr expects them to be gone or almost gone after these last treatments. However, the tumors that are deep into the intestines (which is where all of this began) are only about 1/3 smaller but at least they are smaller. The other news is that his PSA levels for prostate cancer (remember they were insistent that it was prostate cancer that had metastized to the spine over a yr ago until they decided it wasn't cancer) are elevated. About 3 wks ago the PSA had tripled from 1 yr ago so they repeated that test last wk & the number has nearly doubled from just 3 wks ago. Mike is having treatment #5 today & scheduled for #6 in 3 wks. "If" dr sees significant changes in the tumors in the intestines after #6 he might extend the chemo treatments but he said today that he does not think the tumors deep in the intestines are ever going to go away. We asked if Mike felt well enough (he still gets so weak & fatigued but wants to return to work so badly) if he would be able to go back to work after treatment #6 but the dr said he has others areas he has to chase down, the prostate being just 1 of them. He said he can only put 1 fire out at a time so right now we finish with treatments for the lymphoma & will go from there. I see it as a mixed bag. Quite happy with the good part & will deal with the rest as it comes. After so many months of us knowing he was sick & drs finding so many suspicious areas but yet unable to get a diagnosis, I will settle for us putting out 1 fire at a time because at least we have a fighting chance when we know what to fight.

Kathy glad you gave us a report again today. You are right we canonly fight one fire at a time . At least now they are doing something and it is helping in some places. Medicine is so complicated. Good you have Dr's who are trying. Still sending good wishes and hope for the future.

Yes, one step at a time, Kathy. At least there IS progress. Please know that prayers continue...and may the smaller steps lead to a giant leap in treating Mike satisfactorily. =hug

Kathy - Hang in there - it's a marathon, not a sprint. I am glad that there is response from the chemo as that is very encouraging. One fire at a time and I will continue to pray that Mike can return to work as soon as possible.

=hugs
