He quit his dialysis about a week and a half ago. We knew he did not have much time and last night he passed away. He did what he wanted and passed in his travel trailer that was parked in front of my sister's house. I know that he is in a better place now.

It is good that he was able to go the way he wanted to. I know first hand how tough dialysis can be.

Keep strong and remember all all of the good times!

Karin....I am so sorry for your loss. Knowing that the end is coming very soon does very little to lessen the blow when it does finally come. The pain is very real indeed. To you and to your family and friends my deepest condolences.

When my Dad passed away a dear friend sent me this poem. I found much comfort in it and I hope you will find some comfort in it too.

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone"

Gone where?

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"

And that is dying...

So sorry for your loss - but you are correct - he is not suffering any longer and is in a much better place. May you find the peace and comfort you need at this time.

I just read this. Sorry about your dad. If he quit the dialysis, I guess he was ready? Still, it's difficult for those left behind.
