update on what's happening with us

The past couple of wks has been a whirl wind of tests. Since they are sure the tumors on DH's spine are cancer they've been searching & searching for the "primary" source as they say it almost always comes from somewhere else. Every inch of his body has been scanned 1 way or another; thought they had it with the prostate since it was quite enlarged, high PSA, & CT shows activity in the pelvic lymph nodes as well as spine which is where prostate cancer always goes but NO-he does not have prostate cancer but does have an infection. Pancreas, liver, kidneys, etc all clear. Guess that is good news but I know that once cancer hits the bones & lymph nodes that we are in serious trouble. No more searching for a primary source. Tomorrow they will biopsy the spine--don't expect any further answers before Monday. My hope for the immediate future is that they can do something to slow the process down so that he can continue to walk; he can still get around but moves very slow. Thanks to all of you for your well wishes. Will update you as we learn more.

Kathy, I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. The spinal biopsy sounds rough, but it will most likely give you some answers. Most likely, special stains will be requested on the biopsy to give more information. That's how I make my living - doing all those special stains. Don't be surprised if it takes an extra day or so, because they may need to do more specific testing, and I'm sure they want to find out what's going on quickly. Keep us posted, please.
