We are sailing on October 7 (Conquest out of Galveston). Hubby wanted to save money so we did the lowest price and TA gave us a guarantee. I was iffy on this but TA said it's not a busy time to cruise so our chances of an upgrade are better. Anyone know any truth to this? I'ms starting to stress as it gets closer. We are all paid up, if we dont like our room can we ask to PAY for an upgrade once on the ship?

Did you book an interior (no windows in the room) guarantee? If there are unsold cabins on a higher deck, then you have a fair chance of an upgrade. If you are really concerned, You could probably pay for an upgrade now, and you would have a better selection to choose from. Lots of people get nice upgrades with a guarantee booking, I just never have gotten lucky on them.
However, let me tell you, there are NO "bad" cabins on the Conquest. Every interior cabin is exactly like any other interior cabin. The only difference is, of course, the location. I agree with Hubby... just get me on the boat! I really do not mind climbing extra stairs if I saved enough money on the ticket to be able to splurge a little elsewhere.

When we went on the Conquest, we booked on one of the "One Day Sales", and got upgraded several decks higher than what we paid for. This may be something you could look for on your next booking.
As you cruise more and more, you will begin to decide what location on a ship works best for you. If you need to be higher up on the ship, or if you must have a window or balcony, then you are just gonna have to talk sweet to hubby, and bat those beautiful eyes a little more!:lol

Most upgrades happen within the category.. so if you booked an inside cabin that is what you will get more then likly.

sailing in Oct you probably have been assigned. Check it out on carnival web page. Hopefully you are registered to use the site.

top right hand corner click on MY PROFILE. once in there click on ADD A BOOKING NUMBER> put in all your information. Your cruise is now registered on the home page of carnival.

click on cruise details in there somewhere find a link that says stateroom details..this is where you will find your assignment.

if you want to upgrade-- you will be paying the going rate of todays prices.

I wouldnt stress too much about your room- if its your first time you wont be in the room that much. There are no bad locations to be in.

Thanks you guys. I beleive the guarantee was for an interior cabin (no OV or porthole). This will be our third cruise so we are past guest just was wondering if we would get something nicer- example a OV rather than just an inside cabin.

I am registered but I need to call my travel agent because it wants me to use my booking number which I have no idea what it is, I've look all over my travel agents receipt.

Thanks so much for your help! I know lots of you cruise a TON more than me and I knew I'd get a straight up answer that's why I've been coming here the last year or so!

You are all so helpful even to those of us who dont post much ;-)!

I am a past guest times 8- And havenot been upgraded yet.

In my theories..and everyone has them.. the people who paid the most will get upgraded first. SInce you are booking so far in advance the prices will raise over the course of the next months.

we booked the Liberty Nov 2005 for august 2007 for only 388 and the price is more then doubled what we paid== 700+ pp

If you want the oceanview-- or even one with a port hole I suggest booking the cabin directly..
By reading message boards youwould think it happens a lot with people booking inside cabins and getting upgraded to the next category= it is rare but it does happen. most people get the same category but only higher on the ship.

if you want a cheap room check out 1As
cabin #2462 or 2465 which is the cheapest room on the whole ship.
These cabins feature 2 windows...not one like the oceanview cabins. and the room is huge.

I book these all the time.
IS grty.I have never been disappointed. Always upgraded! If you are close to sailing look on your docs or go to carnival.com and do your fun pass see if they have assigned a cabin. I have one in November and have been assigned. a 5 cat upgrade. Yes, this can change up to sailing date. I would`nt worry.

This is what is said when I went and finally got my reservation on the carnival site:

Stateroom: 8226 Okay I just looked and it's on the Veranduh deck but still an interior room. Do these rooms change the closer you get to the cruise?

Very rare. Its 99.99% that will be your cabin. you want to be checking prices for that cat-- which is a 4 e- if the price in that cat comes down lower then what you paid-- then see if you can get upgraded instead.

You got upgraded to within your category.

How did you get such a great rate for booking in advance? We are sailing on the Triumph 12/1/07 and I was looking ahead for our next cruise... how did you find that rate? I am a past passenger and still can't find rates like that for 2009. I am very curious since we have 3 kids and every dollar counts.. Thanks.

NOt quite sure if you were asking me since I didn't post my price but our price was $420 (or around that amount per person). $200 of that is port charges of course. I didn't think it was that cheap but compared to what others pay I'm seeing it's a good price.

HOWEVER we did an inside cabin on the lowest deck meaing lowesest price for the COnquest. We just happend to get bumped up from that 4a to 4e. Lucky maybe but we are past guest as well so that may have something to do with it. My husband and I weren't picky on what we'd get aslong as we were on the ship so if we happend to be on the low deck we were okay with that. We are certainly happy we were upgraded though.

Are you registered to use the Carnival site? You dont get a past guest number until after your first cruise--which then entitles you to the discounts.
Looking for summer sailings will cost you dearly. High prime time seaon.-- when do the kids go back to school? price out the last week in August. Thats when we sail and the price is phenomenal.
You also want to look at older ships like Sensation, Facination, Imagination etc.
or Victory, Triump and Destiny which all allow 5 people in one cabin. (we saved over 700.00 by cruising in an inside cabin with 5 people) last cruise it was only a 200.00 difference in total cost to get the 2nd cabin.

You also might want to checkout costa cruises which sometimes have kids sail free.

The bottom line-- when you are looking online for prices.. lots of places do not include government taxes. Most prices you see already include the port taxes. (look at the bottom of the page to see what price includes

I am a past guest and booked a balcony guarantee for our November 7 sailing to the southern Caribb. on the MIRACLE. This is our 6th cruise with Carnival, and I typically book a guarantee stateroom. I've always been pleased with the rooms that I have been assigned. Last night, just for fun, I checked my reservation on the Carnival site, and lo and behold... I got my room assignment already .... 50 days away ! It is the highest category offered before getting to extended balcony rooms.

I have never been upgraded to a different category when booking a guarantee. So, if you really want to " move up " ... call Carnival and see what you can do. Good Luck ~ have a great cruise ~ and remember, anyplace on the ship is better than a week at work ! :)

You're on the Nov 7th sailing with us! We booked 7A obstructed balcony guarantee and were bumped up to 8F on the Verandah deck. We received a cabin at the front of the ship. Called my PVP and we were able to switch to a more aft cabin on the same deck....we're happy!

Whenever we have done a guarantee we have never been upgraded out of the booked type room... BUT we have gotten higher decks etc. I know I have heard of people going from a port hole to OV or interior to OV but that has never happened for us even with Plat status/past cruiser status.

It is a really great cheaper way to cruise if you can stand the stress of not knowing your room number etc. I know on the Glory before this past one I did we saved $200 by doing that for our Balcony room! But I would never suggest for anyone to book a Guarantee type room with thinking they will get bumped up to the next type of room.

if you booked interior you will upgrade to interior most likely; we sailed on the conquest and it was gorgeous!!! we booked a balcony guarantee and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS!!! 7 nights is along time on ship and we really really really enjoyed the balcony. on shorter cruises we have stayed inteiror cabins and ocean view as well. on the conquest, it was just my husband and i so we spent a bit more time in the cabin than normal :couple and enjoyed the open door/balcony!
