I looking at the valor in May 07 & my ta sugguest room 7439 on the ampress deck because it has a 75 sq ft balconey. (my first balcony cruise). It looks like it would mean a lot more walking, can't decide if it is worth it. Anyone stay at the back of the ship before?

we had 7434 on the Liberty- same class as the Valor.

On the deck plans the cabin does look bigger and there is a lot of sq footage BUT a lot of that sq footage is not usable. There is a lot of wasted space. example is the huge amount of space by the door.. its dark and thats where we stored our luggage. There is no sofa in the cabin. The only space to sit is on the bed. There is a chair but when its used it will take up the remaining floor space.
The floor space for you to get ready for the evening is one side beside the bed and vanity.
the bathroom door opens to the bed.

Do yourself a favor and book a direct aft balcony cabin. the balconies are bigger and you get more room in your cabin.

The life boats are not an issue on this class ship.

If you want a bigger balcony go to the aft- anything on deck 7 Empress deck is an awesome choice.
Balconies across the aft are a lot bigger then the ones on the side

We were on the Victory, cabin 7433, aft balcony 2 weeks ago. We always get balcony cabins, this is our lst aft. Yea, the walk is LONG if you come down the wrong elevator, but you get an excuse for an extra dessert; walk off those calories :lol. There were a few times that I had to take a "bathroom break" and opted for going back to our cabin, took the wrong elevator, got off and looked WAY DOWN that long hallway and had to walk down with my legs pressed together! :roll The "side" balconies are really so much better; smaller, but it is nice to watch the wake of the ship. Another thing is that with Carnival, the aft of the ship is graduated up. So the balconies above us could look right down on us. You don't have the privacy you have on side balconies. It was "only" a 4 day cruise, and I enjoyed the aft balcony, but would not book one again.
