Hello. Just booked a 7-day cruise to Alaska from Vancouver. Am hoping to spend two days in Vancouver before the cruise. Any suggestions for a nice, not too expensive, hotel? Thanks.

hi and welcome.

you made a great choice by choosing to go to alaska. when are you going and on what ship?? the first thing to consider is if you want to be close to the peir or not. do you leave from canadian place or balentyne. this will make a difference in the cost of getting to the ship on the day you sail. why not give priceline a try. i bid $50 and got the 4* marriot pinnacle 3 blocks from canadian peir. it will be a great stay for the night at a great price. also you can try www.hellobc.com or www.bcpassport.com for links to good hotels and things to do in vancouver. try to go to suspencion bridge, grouse mountain, the arquarium and grandville market. stanley park is also a great place to spend the day and see the bay and totom poles. you will have a great time.

i know others here will be able to give you more detailed tips that will help you out also.

Thanks for the quick response! I'll be sailing on Carnival Spirit and, I believe, we will be departing from Canada Place. I don't mind paying taxi fare to the port and would rather stay some place central to good restaurants and shopping.

wow, i am going on the spirit again in may. and yes, you are leaving from canadian place. i love this ship. it is gorgeous, easy to get around. the crew and service is wonderful. and i love the food. you have made a good pick for your alaska trip. are you going roundtrip to glacier bay or doing the northbound trip?? i still say you might give priceline a try. just pick a 3* or higher and you will get a great room for a good price. choose vancouver area and you will be more downtown. i know you will have a great time. when are you going? maybe we will see you on the ship.

We are also going to Alaska this summer on the northbound Sun Princess, departing Vancouver on June 20. Like you, we are staying 2 nights in Vancouver prior to our cruise. I booked a 4* room on Priceline at the Sutton Place hotel. I suggest you familiarize yourself with Priceline at Biddingfortravel.com (which I learned about through reading this forum) and bid in the Vancouver zone. Be sure you understand the "free rebids" procedure. Good luck!

My favorite web site for YVR and Alaska.

Have a look at the hand drawn map and where the hotels are to give you an Idea of where everything is. The area is very walkable.
Any specific questions get back to us.

We've got the Listel booked for the beginning of September. Any thoughts on spectacular dining? I was thinking about one of the Chinese restaurants friday night and then breakfast the next day at the Listel? We've booked 2 of the "museum" rooms.
