First, Jrdoa, try going up the ladder with carnival.  Talk to a customer relations person (i think that is what they call them).  After one of my cruse inturruptions, my dw and I were comped a 50% voucher.   Upon finally taling to the proper department  at carnival, I merely had to book my cruise through my ta and they requested the voucher    We planned the cruise for about a year later.  


You may want to check with your ta that booked the first cruise.   They can check on room availability.  I know mine can.  And next, many of us here get travel insurance through a non carnval insurance.     The one I had last year would have refunded me the whole amount if I didn't sail.  I don't fly so I didn't take out flight insurance.           ps.  did you book the flight through Carnival??  Usually they take care of these reservations (from what I have read in the past )
